The Costa Calida/Murcia region
The region of costa calida boasts possibly the best climate in mainland spain through the whole year with approx 310 days of sunshine and average temperatures 30 degress in summer and 18 degress in winter. We were there in January 07 and had the most beautiful blue skies and sunshine during the day. The evenings were a pleasent contrast being colder and more cosy so that you can use your fire or central heating.
Why not visit Cartagna the oldest sea port in the world. Here you will find roman digs, museums and beautiful buildings still showing bullet scars from the civil war.
In contract Murcia has a more cosmopolitan feel with plenty of shops. The network of narrow streets and squares containing magnificent Baroque architecture and set behind the wide palm tree lined avenues.
Hacienda del Alamo Golf Resort area
Hacienda del Alamo officially opened the first of the two Dave Thomas designed championship golf course in November 2004. The first course is a challenging 6724 metres over gently undulation conditions with a maximum height differential of only 20 metres. There is also a golf academy which consists of a six hole 1251 metre practice ccourse with a two storey driving range.
Hacienda del Alamo is five minutes form the spanish town of Fuente Alamo 25 minutes from the lovely beaches of Mazarron yet surrounded by mountains and farmlands.
Places to go : There is a choice of superb sandy beaches or rocky coastal coves at Mazzarron only 25 minutes away.
There is also the seaside resort of La Manga del Mar Menor about 40 minutes by car. This famous resort has safe and shallow waters that offer a wide variety of water sports. It is Europes largest salt water lagoon and boasts over 170 square kilometres of shallow warm water (about 5 degress centigrade warmer than the Med).
Fuenta Del Alam is 5 minutes drive and has all the necessary supermarkets, banks ect plus an interesting market on Saturdays.
There are two restaurants and two bars on the resort. One restaurant is very reasonable offering a three course meal with a drink for 11 euro - the other restaurant is more up market and more expensive but definatly worth a visit. The bars are very children friendly offering a children's play area, a snooker table and darts board. The 18 hole course is a must for keen golfers. There are always competitions on a Saturday and anyone is welcome to play, you just have to inform the girls at the golf shop to put your name on the sheet. There is a great mixture of nationalities playing golf at Hacienda as it is a very popular course with the Spanish. There is also a great little 9 hole course and fantastic practice area.
