The Donegal region


This is the Gaeltacht area of Donegal. The locals speak Irish, but everyone can also speak English.
Donegal is a county of fantastic scenery, the highest sea cliffs in Europe, deserted white sandy beaches, rugged landscapes, castles, historic sites, lots sheep grazing in little fields surrounded by stone walls, excellent seafood and friendly pubs.
Ards Forest Park, County Donegal. This 1,200-acre park is the perfect spot for a family outing. Situated on the shores of Sheephaven Bay on the rugged Donegal coastline, it’s filled with woodland, rivers, picnic areas, sandy beaches, and play areas.
Earagail Arts Festival, County Donegal. Earagail Arts Festival includes theatre and comedy, outdoor family events, children’s events, exhibitions, film and workshops. Over 80 events take place at over 35 locations in County Donegal. Check the website for current dates and programme.
Glenveagh National Park, County Donegal. 14,000 hectares of mountain, lakes and woodlands. The Golden Eagle was reintroduced to the park in 2000 after 100 years of extinction. There’s also a castle and magnificent gardens on site.
Slieve League Sea Cliffs (South Donegal) - the highest sea cliffs in Europe.

Dungloe the nearest large town is just 13 miles away. The Mary from Dungloe festival usually starts the last Friday of July and lasts one week.
