NO BOOKINGS REQUEST TAKEN DURING JULY 2014 while owner out of country. Beachside is approached from a residential road in a quiet village, offering a safe and peaceful environment. You enter the house into a large hall with a galleried staircase leading up to the living area on the first floor, or an oak door leading through to the bedroom wing on the ground floor. All bedrooms have sea views, two from the front, two from the side.

The property is designed to take advantage of the 360 views, over the Solent one side and the Marsh valley and hills the other, with the open planned living accommodation on the first floor, set out in functional areas: living/dining/kitchen/study. The oak floor is heated underfloor. A 'cathedral' ceiling exposes wooden beams and allows the area to be bathed in natural light by day; a log burning stove creates a glowing atmosphere by night. The fully equipped kitchen with range cooker will be a joy to use for any enthusiastic chef, with large groups eating at the dining table or smaller groups at the teak deck furniture alfresco on the balcony.

Outside, a secluded well maintained coastal design garden offers a quiet retreat to the side of the property, and a more open structured landscaped terrace on the front gives access to the beach via a gate or slipway. Small boats or dinghies can be launched from the public slip way next to Gurnard Sailing Club and pulled up onto the property's grounds from the beach via our own slipway. The quiet beach in front of the property changes with every tide; mostly shingle with patches of sand and groynes of natural rock. Varied and glorious sun sets over the water will take your breath away.

MOBILITY - There is wheelchair access into the house, but internal doorways may not accommodate wheelchairs and only stairs take you to the first floor living area.

CHILDREN are welcome, but there is no equipment for babies or toddlers, and no safety considerations for such young years, such as socket covers or drawer restraints. The many paintings, artifacts and quality furnishings mean that young children cannot be left unsupervised.

SINGLE SEX PARTIES - Not suitable for hen or stag holidays.

DAMAGE DEPOSIT - A £500 damage deposit will be requested.

DOGS - accepted with prior arrangement, though they are restricted to the tiled areas (hall/sunroom/utility). Dogs are not permitted anywhere else in the house for reasons of allergy. Your dogs may not settle well if separated from their family, so do think carefully before bringing them. Additional £200 returnable dog soiling deposit required.

SHOES - No outdoor shoes to be worn beyond the tiled hall.

SMOKING - No smoking anywhere in the house.

SHORT BOOKINGS - bookings shorter than 7 nights may occasionally be considered.

LEISURE EQUIPMENT - You will find some of our leisure equipment on the grounds such as kayaks, bicycles, dinghies. Unfortunately, we cannot get insurance to cover guests for this equipment, but if you can find your own insurance and can supply us with a copy of the details, you are welcome to use these.

There's a volley ball hoop, so bring a volley ball.

The property is approx 240m2, including the garage which is not accessible during lets.

The Isle of Wight region

The Isle of Wight is often referred to as “Little Britain”: it is as if all of Britain’s topography has been condensed into one smaller island. No where on the Island is more than an hour’s drive and most of it within minutes. You can find beaches of all descriptions, sandy, rocky, shingle, dunes, each with their own views, some with popular attractions, others tucked away and secluded. Cliffs, plateaux, hills, forests, open meadows, disused railway paths, esplanades, riverbanks, all make for an enormous amount of varied walks and picnic spots. The extensive range of cycle paths makes the Island accessible along the quiet and thick of the countryside.

The ‘capital’ of the Island is Newport, but each large town offers its own attractions of shopping, restaurants, cafes and bars. There are two multi-screen cinemas, a large theater and several smaller ones.

Smaller character villages with thatched roof cottages offer cream teas, gift and craft shops and show a different side of the Island.

Cowes, an international yachting town, brings much sailing activity and excitement during the summer months.

The following activities are encouraged on the Island:

Sailing, kayaking and other water sports, walking, cycling, swimming, snorkeling, crabbing, rock pool exploring, horse riding, golf, fishing, tennis, picnics and miles of perfect beach combing.

Something for everyone who likes the outdoors, watersports and good restaurants. Not the right destination for you if you are looking for nightclubs or casinos.


Gurnard, a charming and well maintained village to the west of Cowes, offers a quiet retreat by the sea. It has two pubs, two cafes by the sea, a church, a newsagent, a convenience store with off-license and a sailing club. Gurnard Marsh has particular character with its small holiday beach chalets, some dating back to the 1920s. An idyllic spot to explore the rest of the Island from.

Cowes nearby is the heart of the yachting community. Wander through the marina to admire the beautiful yachts moored up and listening to the breeze in the rigging with a beer or coffee in your hand. Watch the excitement of racing starts from the Royal Squadron Yacht Club. Stroll through the old town and quaint shops along the high street.

"Excellent beachside property a short stroll from Cowes"

Travelled with 4 children (ages 7-13) and found lots to do for all ages; very relaxing, easy to travel around with no more than 30 minute journey time. The best bit was arriving back at beachside after a day out exploring and enjoying the view and feeling very relaxed and stress free.

Amazing location, fantastic family layout, this property has it all. Wifi, apple TV, Sky TV and that was to please the kids. The most fantastic thing about our holiday was sitting on the beautiful balcony at sunset enjoying a glass or two while watching the kids splash about and hunt for crabs on the beach. We could watch the sailingboats all day long going in and out of Cowes. Truly a memorable family holiday and one we will be repeating..

Get your Waitrose shopping delivered for your arrival.
Make the most of the morning sun on the deck.
Take some binoculors for watching the yatchs.
Make sure you're home for the best sunsets in Britain, the deck faces west across the solent
Study tide tables for the beaches you are going to visit, ie Steep Hill Cove on a falling tide.

We booked Beachside for the last week in August expecting to be joined by a couple of friends, but they were ultimately unable to come so we had the whole house between just 2 adults and 2 children. The views were outstanding, and the upstairs kitchen/living/dining room was just fantastic. We took wetsuits and so were able to splash around in the sea in front of the house and go crabbing and shell collecting. It is just a short stroll along the beach to the sailing club, and a lovely cafe which did great cream teas and hot choc with marshmallows. Top tips for activities include a day at Steephill Cove (don't miss the crab pasties!) and the yellow rib tour around the Needles.
