Beachside Chalet No1 is approached from a residential road, offering a safe and peaceful environment. The quiet village of Gurnard sits west along the coast from the bustling internationally renown yachting town of Cowes. Gurnard Marsh owes its unique, charming character, in this little corner of the Island, to strict planning restrictions; redevelopment of these war time chalets is kept to a character code of single storey, pastel coloured shiplap cladding, pitched roofs, porches and low picket fencing. The Marsh is clearly defined at one end by a delightful little bridge over a water inlet, The Luck, home to a cluster of small fishing boats. At the other end stands a gentle hill leading up to the village pub and shop.
The tiny chalet is one of a row built during World War II. A Sergeant was accommodated in Chalet 1, and the other chalets accommodated the wrens who operated the anti aircraft search lights. After the war, these chalets were used as holiday accommodation. Over the decades, most of the chalets on the other side of the road have been rebuilt, but most on the sea side are still original, but updated with modern conveniences, giving the area a feel reminiscent of times gone by.
Our chalet fronts onto a large lawned area with direct access to the beach. The lack of fencing between the chalets allows for an open an friendly feel, though Chalet No1 has its own picket fenced garden from which to enjoy the sea views more privately.
The quiet beach in front of the property changes with every high tide; mostly shingle with patches of sand and groynes of natural rock. The yachting activity in the Solent ensures a constant changing scenery. Varied and glorious sun sets over the water will take your breath away. You will never bore of watching this particular part of the world go by.
The chalet renovations have been designed to make most use out of all the space. The one room accommodates living, dining, kitchen galley and a cosy nook for a standard double bed. A wet room with toilet, shower and basin is off this main room. Clever storage solutions throughout allow the area to feel clutter free.
The emphasis for a holiday in this chalet is to 'get away from it all'. With this in mind, there is no television or hi fi system. If you wish to be entertained, bring your laptop with DVDs, connect to our wifi free of charge, and bring your own radio or iPod dock for your iPod. Another thing to pop in your bag might be some binoculars to watch the marine scene go by.
There is off road private parking and bicycle storage is available on request. The bus service is only twice a day, with the nearest bus stop servicing 4 buses an hour to Newport and Cowes, about 15 mins walk. Walking into Cowes takes about 40 mins. Walking to the village shop and pub takes about 8 mins. There is a cafe/restaurant on the coast within 5 mins walk west, another within 10 mins walk east. Depending on your mobility, you may find bringing a car to the Island useful.

HEATING: An electric cast iron effect stove heater blows out immediate heat with flame effect, creating a welcome cozy focal point on cold winter days. There is also an electric oil filled radiator for quieter background heat. Hot water to the shower and the kitchen sink are by way of wall mounted electric water heaters. The rental fee has been reduced to exclude electricity. The electric meter will be read either side of your booking, and the electricity you use will be deducted at cost only, from your electric fee after your visit. The current unit charge, for a key meter from our supplier British Gas, is 26 pence per day for the standing charge, then 13.55 pence per unit of electricity used. As a guide, our guests using the heater in winter use approx £2.50 per day including the standing charge.
PETS: Yes, dogs are welcome, but only if their owners are happy to keep them off all furniture. If you enjoy snuggling up with your dog on the sofa or in bed, them this is NOT the holiday accommodation for you. Dogs must be kept on the floor at all times for health, hygiene and allergy reasons, and never left unattended in the chalet.
TIMINGS: Arrival time is after 17.00 on day of booking. Departure is by 11.00 on departure day.
£35 is charged for changeover costs. This is reimbursed to you after the end of your booking if you pay for 7 nights or more.
Also, a £25 electricity fee is requested out of which your use of electric will be deducted at cost only. The balance will be returned to you after the end of your let by way of Bacs. The reason we do this is to encourage appropriate use of electricity, so our rental fees are deliberately lower to accommodate for the charge of electric separately. DAMAGE DEPOSIT: £150 is requested, out of which any losses or damages will be deducted. The deposit is managed by Holiday Lettings and will be returned to you as per their terms and conditions.

"Beautiful views, lovely central accommodation"
My daughter stayed here & recommended it. The chalet was ideal for 2 of us and we were able to take our dog. This was great & the small lawn was fenced in so he was able to spend most of the time outside(his choice!) chalet was clean & comfortable. Wifi included although we didn't use this much. I would definitely recommend this to couples/ singles. The area was pleasant & lovely views from the chalet & only a few yards from the sea- useful for quick walks with the dog! Central for sight seeing. Nearby nice bar/ restaurant but this was very pricey so we didn't eat there- drinks were pricey too. Would definitely go again.

"Simplicity itself; a perfect retreat from the city!"
We enjoyed a fantastic couple of nights here, which was arranged very efficiently at the very last minute. All communication with the owner was clear and helpful. Overall, the chalet was exactly as advertised and was clean and well-maintained. Albeit a tad chilly on arrival, we soon warmed up with the heaters provided, and the small kitchen area was adequately equipped for self-catering. Overall, we enjoyed a very relaxed couple of days. We will definitely consider a return trip.

"Would definitely stay for longer!"
A very cosy chalet, it had everything we needed. Cooking facilities were brilliant and had some lovely evenings. We only stayed for 3 nights but would happily stay for longer and return for a summer holiday.

"Superb and exquisite little gem, highly recommended"
We stayed in Beachside for two magical days. It may have rained constantly but the cabin was so perfectly equipped we were happy to stay inside and cook in the very well equipped kitchen, read books, snuggle in the fantastic and cosy cabin bed, and enjoy the peace and quiet of this magical little retreat just yards from the waters edge. The place was spotlessly clean and equipped with lovely towels and lots of homely touches. The use of space is brilliant and we could have stayed for a week and had room for everything. "Small but perfect as a base"
We had a wonderful weekend on the Isle of Wight and this served as a perfect base. The view from the from of the hut is beautiful and as long as you are aware in advance that it is small you will enjoy your stay

Very cute little chalet in very peaceful location, they wasn't lieing about bringing a torch if you arrive at night!! Only negative is that the neighbours appear to live in the huts next door - think it would have a different feel to it if they were all let to holiday makers. This chalet is by far the most glamorous out of the row. Deposit returned quickly and efficiently although £200 seems steep.
