About this location
The Turkish Aegean Coast region

It is possible to walk for miles along the waterside walkway or relax and enjoy the sun on a lounger in one of the waterside areas whilst being served with your choice of refreshments There are also quiet beaches if you prefer. Should you wish to experience Turkish life further afield the Dolmus ( mini bus service ) provides a reasonably priced alternative to car hire which is also competatively priced . Tuzla Lake en route to Bodrum is a natural sanctuary for birds including Pelicans and Flamingos. For those who enjoy a little retail therapy the weekly market in Milas is a must - you can purchase anything from clothes to spices at very reasonable prices. We decided to try Turkey for the first time this year to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and we weren't disappointed!! We arrived in the early hours of the morning via a taxi from the airport-would recommend pre-booking through the owners at no extra cost. The apartment was well appointed, clean and the rooms spacious and cool. Small problems were easily resolved by the management company. The beautiful pool gave us chance to read and swim to our hearts content and Gulluk itself was exactly as we imagined from the detailed description given by the owners- plentiful shops, bakers, supermarkets and fresh fruit and veg with lots of lovely walks by the sea.
The locals were extremely friendly and made us very welcome even offering us lifts from the apartment into town in what ever they were driving including a flatbed truck (in the cab of course!). As we wanted a restful, stress-free 2 weeks, we decided not to hire a car and to try the minibuses from the dolmus-pronounced sh- for our sight seeing. Glad we did as the Turkish car and bike drivers are a little reckless to say the least- driving on their roads is not for the faint hearted! We visited Bodrum and Milas partly for the markets where bartering is expected and part of the fun. Bus fares are very cheap too. The walk to Gulluk takes about 20 minutes at holiday speed and we managed that easily into and back from at least daily which gave us chance to see the beautiful scenery and turquoise sea. The weather was beautiful apart from 1 day where we had a thunderstorm which the locals thought was a blessing from God- it just reminded us of home!
There are several varied restaurants for both lunchtime and evening meals. Would recommend the Broken Barrel for a cool beer, good English speaking company and any advice followed by a meal at Eski Depo- where the locals eat which is always a good sign.
All in all, our holiday surpassed our expectations and we will definitely make a return trip- Gulluk is obviously an up and coming tourist destination with a lot of appeal.
P.S. don't bother sending postcards- ours arrived home 5 weeks after us!
