The Turkish Aegean Coast region
Horizon Sky Beach Resort is situated in the beautiful and historically protected area of 'Iasos' (pronounced ee-ya-sos) a region of Bodrum in the gulf of Gulluk.
The area has much historical and cultural significance leading to stringent laws now curbing commercial inference and property development. Horizon Sky is also located in close proximity of Bodrum International Airport, operating flights throughout the summer season.
With the summer months having an average air and sea temperature in excess of 20 degrees, and an annual average rainfall of only 22 days, only 2 days of which are between June and September.
The castle town of Bodrum can be easily reached via water taxi to Gulluk, a pretty coastal village set below a picturesque mountain backdrop. A 35min drive from Gulluk in either a taxi or the local dolomus bus will take you to Bodrum, a buzzing thriving, artisan community where tradition goes hand in hand with designer labels, jewellery and leather goods amid local street markets.
Gulluk Fishing Village
Located in Mandalya Bay on the Aegean Sea, the Turquoise Coast, Gulluk is a peaceful, quiet fishing village with an abundance of restaurants and cafes serving locally caught fish, primarily sea bass and bream. Gulluk has several supermarkets and local shops selling fresh local produce,
The free Horizon Sky private water taxi is based in the harbour and provides regular trips across the bay to the resort for all visitors. Download boat timetable.
The town of Bodrum is steeped in culture, history and tradition, offering plenty to be explored.
The Castle of the Knights of St John
After the castle in Izmir was destroyed in 1402, the Ottoman Empire granted the Knights of Rhodes to build another elsewhere.
The Knights of St. john used stone from the fallen remains of the Mausoleum and burned marble in pits to produce lime. Taking almost a century to complete, the castle remains one of the most intact relics of the era.
The Underwater Archaeology Museum
Thanks to efforts of Turkish and foreign scholars who carried out successful archaeological digs - both on land and at sea, the castle has turned into one of the greatest Underwater Archaeology museums in the world. The old Spanish Chapel now houses the famous Yassiada Wreck. The Glass Exhibition is stunning, displaying glass objects discovered at Serçe Limani and the hull of the ship. More information
The Myndos Gate
This entrance gate to Halicarnassus is thought to have been constructed in 360 BC. When Alexander the Great came to claim the city, he was unable to pass the deep, broad trench in front of the gate. When the gate was restored a couple of years ago, archaeologists found the remainders of the trench. Next to the gate there is a Turkish cemetery and some vaulted tombs from Hellenistic and Roman periods.
Eating out in Turkey offers infinite possibilities. In addition to those eateries offering traditional Turkish fare, one can find restaurants-a-plenty serving cuisine from all around the globe.
Sampling the delights of the region's cuisine is in itself an adventure. "Must try's" include su böre?i (layers of filo pastry baked with cheese), köpo?lu (fried aubergine and yoghurt) and çiçe?i dolmasi (stuffed squash flower). For "fast food" Turkish style, the Döner ekmek (grilled lamb sliced and sandwiched in thick crust bread) and gözleme (savory pancakes) come highly recommended!
Don't forget to too sample the Turkish mint tea – thought to be one of the best ways of cooling down on a hot summer's day, and Raki – liqueur produced from anise. The latter is best consumed alongside a variety of meze.
Artisans & Markets
Head to one of the local markets and you will find everything from fruit, vegetables and flowers to birds, leather and textiles – all at very reasonable prices!
Tue: Bodrum (clothes, textiles & gifts)
Wed: Ortakent, Gündo?an
Fri: Bodrum (food)
OASIS, located on the northwest side of Bodrum by the Gumbet crossroads, was the first “satellite” shopping plaza to challenge “downtown” shopping habits.
Housing 239 shops, a theatre and auditorium, 5 cinemas, and numerous cafes and restaurants, OASIS provides the ultimate shopping experience. One can expect to find everything from designer and local brands to jewellery and home decor.

"About as good as it gets accommodation-wise"
Had a great stay at this Horizon Sky apartment. It was as good if not better than billed on the Holiday Lettings website. The owner, Harry arranged a transfer pick-up from the airport - and we were presented with 3 bags of complimentary shopping upon a late evening arrival - spot-on! The whole holiday was fantastic, the resort was fantastic. Do bare in mind that the apartment is 150 steps (approx) from the main pool area - but resort drivers will drive you up if you ask. I found it good exercise and one way of walking off the Effes beer!
I only have one gripe: the Horizon Sky resort is billed on the Holiday Lettings and Horizon Sky websites as having a bar, shop and restaurant . . . as it stands there aren't any of these, which was a little disappointing to say the least. They really should remove these amenities off the websites.
But... that didn't ruin our stay at all . . . Harry and Ayse, thanks, we may be in contact next year.

"Beautiful and well equipped apartment with genuinely stunning views."
Our Holiday started when we walked out of the airport and immediately saw a driver waiting with our names on a card. He transported us to the boat and made sure we had everything we needed before he left. The boat ride over to the resort was lovely and on arrival we were taken up to the apartment by car, and given the keys.
The apartment was every bit as lovely as the pictures we'd seen and the view was stunning, a genuine wow!
From flawless arrival right through to our last day we enjoyed every moment. We had originally expected to use the apartment and resort as a base for wider exploring, but we found everything we needed in and around the resort.
The apartment itself has everything you might need and there are numerous pools dotted about the resort. Three of the pools are very close to the apartment and we managed to find a pool to ourselves every day we stayed (it was mid Sept so can't say that would be the case in peak season)
We enjoyed occasional trips on the boat to Gulluk but mostly spent our days in the pools and on the beach. There's a small beach on the resort proper which is pleasant enough, but we found a better one about a 15 to 20 minute walk away. It's below the Villas you can see from the apartment balcony, immediately to the right of the resort.
Harry, the apartment owner, was very helpful and provided all the information we wanted before travelling and even when we phoned him once while we were there.
There were parts of the resort complex that have't been completed yet, but as promised by Harry, everything we needed was finished, and there was no work going on anywhere during our stay. (Apparently they can only actually work during the off season)
We can happily recommend this apartment and the resort, and we hope to go back ourselves.

We had a wonderful time at the resort we stayed. It was very relaxing. The apartment we stayed in was very well decorated and very clean. Liked the fact that puzzle and games were available to keep us… More

We had a really wonderful holiday in Horizon Sky. All arrangements from airport pickup to collecting keys and being dropped off to the apartment worked very smoothly. We even arranged for Osman to take us back to the airport. The apartment is beautiful and had everything we may have needed. The view from the balcony is spectacular. We used the pool downstairs but then also used the main pools quite a bit. The resort was not very busy and we always managed to get sunbeds etc. My husband used the gym practically everyday. We spent an evening in Bodrum which was fun. The boat trips to Gullick were relaxing and always on time. We discovered couple of great restaurants, the bakery and 2 supermarkets: asda and tesco!! we also went to the market on Thursday....really enjoyed the trip!
The electricity and water went off a couple of times for a short period, but nothing major.
We would definitely recommend to friends and family and have left a message in the visitors book.

"one could do as much as they like or as little"
We found it a very relaxing place. The staff were exceptionally friendly & nothing was no trouble for them. The Apartment was all one could ask for.The view is stunning. There was no Wi-fi in the apt but it was ok in the restaurant. We had to take a ferry over & back to the village which was very pleasant & again staff were very helpful. The pool was very comfortable & the staff were always on hand if u need them but not annoying. We really enjoyed our holiday.

"Fantastic Apartment with Breath Taking Views"
We were greeted from the airport by a local driver, which was arranged by the owners, we had a short 10 minutes drive to Gulluk, where we boarded the courtesy boat to Horizon Sky Beach Resort, very pleasant and exciting way to arrive.
We were picked up from the jetty by car and taken directly to our apartment, the staff were very helpful and carried our luggage. We did have to climb a few stairs, but when we opened the front door of the apartment the place was stunning and the views amazing.
The apartment had everything you could wish for, and was like staying in a 5 star hotel without the room service. It was wonderful to have our meals on the balcony overlooking the islands. The resort has many pools to choose from and a restaurant and bar, however a short free boat ride to Gulluk Town, we found many restaurants and bars to choose from with fresh catch of the day, we also did most of our shopping, as their were a number of good supermarkets including Tesco.
The famous historic town of Bodrum was about 35 minutes by Dolmus (Mini Bus) ride away, where we visited the Castle of St John. We had a super time in Bodrum, but we were very tired when we returned to the apartment, as their were a lot of things to see and do, the marina had some amazing boats, our advise is to leave early as the time goes quickly.
On a different day we took a boat trip to the Greek Island of Kos which is quite close to Bodrum. Finally we have to say, that the staff at the resort were very helpful and full of local information. We had a truly enjoyable holiday, perfect for a peaceful and relaxing time.
