The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Var region

The Cote d'Azur is sited on the Mediterranean coast of France and boasts a reliable climate of hot summers and mild winters. It has peerless beaches and excellent watersport facilities, with a whole host of fascinating hill towns and villages with a plentitude of local history.

Major centres like St Raphael, Cannes & Nice have a glut of facilities and attract international tourists all year round. The South of France, however, is still very much for the locals and is home to a number of local festivals which celebrate events from 14th July to the local harvest of the chestnut crop. The region has some of the best small vineyards in the whole country and its restaurants can rival any in Europe.

Gulf of Saint-Tropez / Grimaud area

Beautiful Saint Tropez Bay, near the lakeside dwellings of Port Grimaud. One of the oldest villages in the Maures massif, nestling in the shadow of its feudal castle. Port Grimaud, a real lakeside town full of the colours of Provence. Many golf courses in the surrounding area.

The medieval village of Grimaud, the Romanesque church of Saint-Michel, the Rue des Templiers, the castle ruins, the Chapelle des Pénitents, the Chapelle Saint-Roch, the Chapelle Notre-Dame-de la Queste, Saint-Roch windmill, the Pont des Fées (bridge of fairies) and the lake city of Port-Grimaud. A small tourist train runs to Grimaud and Port-Grimaud.

The Corniche des Maures coastal road, the Route des Crêtes (route of the peaks), Hyères and the Iles d'Or (Islands of Gold), the Verdon gorges, Saint-Tropez, Gassin, Sainte-Maxime.

How to get there

By road:
From Paris (870 km): a8 motorway "la provençale", le muy exit. Then take the D25 for Sainte-Maxime. pass through Sainte-Maxime and take the N98 towards Saint-Tropez as far as Saint-Pons-les Mûres. 300 m after the 1st roundabout, take the d244 on the right, in the direction of plan de la tour. Follow the signs for "les restanques du golfe de saint-tropez".
