Home description

This sunny waterside apartment is situated at the Marines de Cogolin, which is just two miles from St Tropez.
This is an ideal base for exploring some of the prettiest perched villages of the South of France as well as the Cote d'Azur coastline from St Tropez to Monaco. With the famous Port Grimaud on it's doorstep and many beaches including Pampalonne, you don't need to travel far. If you wish to relax, sunbathe or swim, you don't need to move off the Marina, which has its own fully serviced community overlooking the boats and the beach.

There is a sandy beach with sailing school, plus private tennis courts and swimming pool with small refreshments bar for residents only. Around the main basin and on the beach is a good selection of bars and restaurants for al fresco dining. The marina is kept in immaculate order and access is limited to residents only at night. Naturally, boat hire, chandelry and tuition can be found within walking distance too.

The apartment is surrounded by well-kept gardens verdant with oleanders, bougainvilleas and full of the familiar perfumes of Provence. The apartment is on the second floor, is comfortably furnished with a well equipped kitchen. There is a bathroom and separate wc, good sized double bedroom with its own balcony overlooking the gardens and a spacious lounge leading onto the larger south-facing terrace overlooking the Marina.

The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Var region

The apartment is in the Departement of the Var which is still a very unspoilt area of the Cote d'Azur. It has sunshine for most of the year and the apartment is available year round. Although quiet during the winter months, it is very pleasant and we offer discounted winter rates. Spring and Summer months are hot and sunny with temperatures often reaching 32 degrees C. There are many lovely perched hill villages in the area and in the summer months many Festivals and Fetes. The beaches are sandy and easily accessible and there are endless water sports, fishing, sailing, diving, snorkelling to name just a few. Eating out of doors and enjoying the good local wines are another of the pleasures of this lovely area.

Gulf of Saint-Tropez / Les Marines de Cogolin area

The famous St. Tropez market is a must and you can 'people watch and celebrity spot' whilst sitting at one of the many port side cafes or brasseries. There is the Nualage or big ships race in October, the Bravades, Cannes, Nice, the famous 'Corniches' and Monaco Grand Prix in May, all just 1 hour away, and many summer Festivals. The Chestnut Fair is celebrated in La Garde Freinet in October whilst Christmas in St. Tropez is a delight with the silver lights threaded through the plane trees in the Place des Lices. Nearby Cogolin, Ste. Maxime, La Croix Valmer and Gassin or as far as Eze or Italy are within reach by car or boat. The marine is quiet neighbour to the famous Port Grimaud - the 'Venice of France' , worth a visit.

By Air:

Nice - airport is about 1 hour 15 minutes drive. Easyjet flies from Luton , Gatwick and Belfast into Nice, also Aer Lingus from Dublin. Hire cars available at Nice, Holiday Autos are particularly competitive. Tip: if booking with Easyjet it is always better to book well in advance as the prices go up the closer you are to departure date.
Toulon - airport is about 1hour drive. Various airlines fly into Toulon

EasyJet (From Belfast, Luton, Stansted, Gatwick, Bristol & Liverpool to Nice)
Jet2.com (From Leeds / Bradford to Nice)
ba.com (From major airports UK to Nice.)
bmibaby (From Birmingham to Nice.)
flybmi (From Heathrow to Nice.)

By Train:

TGV is at Les Arcs, with Frejus/St Raphael for SNCF. There are buses connecting Port Grimaud to St Raphael not very frequent and no guarantee of meeting connecting trains.

By Car:

From Calais to Port Grimaud the distance is approximately 750 miles. Autoroutes are fast and using the A8 down to Le Luc, means a lovely drive over the Maures mountains through the pretty towns into Port Grimaud itself. It's a long journey but can be managed in a day. Allow approximately 15 hours elapsed time from the chunnel for example, including food and drink breaks for a comfortable drive. We often stop-over at Lyons however as that provides a good rest point.

Directions from Nice airport to the apartment:

The hire cars are found at terminal 2. Check whick terminal you are flying into, if it is terminal 1 you will need to get the free bus which takes you around to the car hire firms. If it is terminal 2 head towards the multi storey car parking opposite the exit and follow the signs.

When leaving the airport you need to look for signs for the A8 (these are large blue signs). Follow the signs for the A8, you will drive alongside the river and will come to a junction.

You go left at this junction and follow A8 signs for Antibes/Toulon/Marseilles. You will go round a roundabout take the first turnoff which is signposted - A8. DON'T TAKE NICE TURNOFF (A GREEN SIGN).

Once you are on the A8 keep following the signs for Toulon/Marseilles. You will be on the motorway for about 75kms, turn off at junction 36 (Le Muy) and follow the directions for St. Tropez.

You will need 6 euros 30 for the tolls. 1st toll is 2.6 euros, at the second toll you get a ticket and the 3rd toll is 4 euros .

After about 20 kms you will come to St. Maxime, again keep following the signs for St Tropez. At this point you will be on the coast road, the N98, you will stay on this road all the way.

Look out for signs to Port Grimaud, which will be on your LHS. You will then approach a very very large roundabout on which the central island contains a Geant and McDonalds. There is a fairground to your RHS. At the roundabout follow the Ramatuelle/St Tropez signs and stay in the left hand lane.

There are traffic lights on the roundabout, go straight accross at these then there is a T-Junction. Take the right hand lane to St tropez/Ramatuelle. The road will bear to the right. You will see an overhead sign to Marines De Cogolin. Turn left here, accross the traffic.

Enter Marines De Cogolin and go straight ahead to a small roundabout then take a left turn driving past Monaco Marine. At the next T-Junction turn right. You will pass a barrier system that operates after 8pm (You will need a security pass to enter and further directions will be sent to you when your booking is confirmed).
You will pass Les Deux Voiles on your RHS as the road bears left.

Follow the road, observing boats to your RHS then apartment blocks. Drive past the tennis courts on your right. You will see a white telephone box on the RHS. Park anywhere from here onwards.

On foot, take the entrance by the telephone box. Follow the path to the left. This will tak eyou to 'Block 1' of Cascadelle IV. You will need a key to open the front door. Take stairs to the second floor and the door is on the RHS, number 408. Congratulations!

You may wish to look at :

which shows a pictoral map of Les Marines. Look top left for 'Cascadelle'. Voila!

'We had a super time thanks and the apartment was just as you described it, in addition the weather was super although we were forecast to get some rain, however it appeared that Nice got it all ….! !

I hope you don’t mind but I have taken some cards and will be leaving them at our office information point, so hopefully should get some more enquiries in due course' - guest in late October 2007.
