The Brittany region
Pays Bigouden is a quieter area of southern Brittany, famous for its artisanal fishing ports, Le Guilvinec is closeby and well worth visiting. There are numerous sandy beaches and the magnificent sweep of La Torche is very popular for surfing, wind surfing and kite surfing. The local town of Pont L'Abbe has a lovely old centre with good restaurants. Benodet is a 15 minute drive as is the regional town of Quimper, which has a wide range of shopping and restaurants.
Guilvinec - Guilvinec owes its prosperity to crayfish and lobsters, and it has remained an important fishing port, the fourth largest in France.
The whole economy of the district, from fish auctions and canneries to naval dockyards, is dependent on the sea. A sight not to be missed is the return of the trawlers at about 4 p.m. every day.

"Our home from home in Brittany"
We have spent four holidays in this bungalow arranged through Brittany Travel. It is five minutes from the beach, five minutes by car to Le Guilvenic and a 20 minute walk along the sea front to the little fishing port which has excellent markets. Superb bracing walks at La Torche a 15 minute drive away. The bungalow is set back from the road so very quiet and private. We have used Brittany Travel for more than 10 years, for ferry bookings and staying in various houses. They really know their properties, the localities and are able to give detailed advice to clients.
