Gueyze area

Gueyze and Sos are typical villages for this area. Throughout the summer there are an number of Fetes and village festivals. Every Wednesday evening in July and August, Sos hold a local producers market, where you can sample local food and wine and also dance and meet the local people in the village square. Also this part of Lot-et-Garonne is ideally placed for access to both France's Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts. Westwards, it's around 2 hours to Biarritz - a favourite holiday spot for 19th century European royalty, and still a great place for a day trip, with an ocean front casino, miles of white sand beaches, and great surfing. Also about 2 hours away are the Pyrénées Mountains with their ski resorts, hiking trails, white water rafting and other out door pursuits. The area offers plenty of culture and history to be discovered, such as the Abbaye de Flaran, the Roman villa of Séviac at Montréal, and the circular village of Fources. Auch, capital of the Gers, is about 40 minutes away. This area of France has so many wonderful towns and villages to discover and explore including the historic riverside market towns of Condom and Nérac. Lectoure is a Roman hilltop garrison town, with its museums and art galleries. The beautiful medieval villages of Fources, Larrasingle and La Romieu are all close by plus many more un-spoilt and sleepy villages and Bastides. Slightly further a field are the wonderful towns and cities of Bordeaux and Pau. Visit Bilbao, home to the wonderful Guggenheim Museum. Or pay a visit to Lourdes, situated in foothills of the Pyrénées, is one of the most visited pilgrimage town in the world.
