About the home

A very attractive little "château" with a tower set in large wooded garden but only 1km from a town with all facilities. Three bedrooms (one with four poster bed), magnificent sitting room. All modern conveniences inc broadband and Sky TV.

All modern conveniences - main bathroom with large bath / shower, ensuite shower room, guest loo, memory foam mattresses, oil central heating, magnificent log fire, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, microwave, fridge freezer, UK Sky satellite TV, wireless broadband. Everyone says how much they enyoyed their holiday there. Our cat loves it too!

Before your stay the house is cleaned and fresh bed linen and towels provided. You will also find a welcome pack with essentials to get you going, plus a bottle of the local wine!

Lots to do in the area and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets (inc McD, Chinese buffet, steak and gourmet). Two guests enjoyed this one so much that they visited 6 times in the space of 2 weeks:

The Burgundy / Saone-et-Loire region

With its rolling countryside, vineyards and ancient chateaux, Burgundy is a sleepy, untouched part of France. Over 1000 kms of winding canals and rivers make fishing a popular pastime here, and the waterways are dotted with pleasure boats and watersport centres. The extensive walking and cycling routes make Burgundy an ideal destination for family holidays in France.

There are bustling towns to visit, Beaune is famous for its dessert wines and Dijon is the home of the world- famous mustard. The Magny Cours motor racing circuit is well worth a visit for enthusiasts. Some of the finest wines in the world such as Chablis and Saône are produced here. The region has a rich historical past, including the alliance of the Dukes of Burgundy with the English during the Hundred Years War....

The Gueugnon area

Small town with market on Thursday mornings. Very well equipped with supermarkets and other shops. For children, the Le Pal themepark (www.lepal.com) is 41km away or 10 minutes up the road is www.divertiparc.com. In Digoin (about 12 miles away) you can take a lunch cruise on the canal. The market day there is Sunday.

The region is renowned for good food e.g. Charolais beef and wine. One couple said that they found the local restaurant so good that they visited it six times in two weeks. Inexpensive by the way!

The countryside is beautiful and pace of life so relaxing. Lots of historical sites and châteaux. There are plenty restaurants. At the house there are numerous brochures. Weather wise there is less rain than in the UK. In summer the temperature can be in the upper 30s!

So, apart from the chateaux, vineyards, theme parks, cycling, canal trips, brocante shops, markets what is there to do? Well you could simply sit in the sun and relax at the house or have a barbeque there. There are some indoor games for wet days - if there are any!

Many regional airports e.g. Edinburgh have direct (and cheap) flights to Lyon which is a couple of hours drive to the house. Can be as little as £50 per person return! Car hire is represented by the major players there. I have also flown to Geneva (three hours drive) and Paris (four hours).

Eurostar would also take you to Paris where a high speed TGV takes you to Le Creusot where you can take a taxi to the house - about 40km away.

Of course, those not wanting airport hassle can drive to a ferry port like Hull or Dover. On the French side it takes about 6 hours but then you would not need a rental car and can take more people, luggage (and the cat)!
