About this location
The Brittany region
The Morbihan region of southern Brittany is a quiet fishing and farming region of France and is blessed with a beautiful and varied coastline and an interior of lush farmland, woods and moors to delight the country lovers. The native Breton people, of Celtic descent appreciate their visitors and provide a warm welcome.
Their local 'Pardons' and 'Fetes', regional costumes, music, dances, legends and language maintained by the Bretons are a large part of the area's unique charm.
Brittany 's restaurants and bistros supply some of the best of French provincial cooking, very reasonably priced and in generous proportions. You can't leave without sampling its 'fruits de mer', crepes and cider.
Brittany 's rolling hills, dense forests and lazy rivers, offer a variety of activities; from walking, riding and cycling to fishing and canoeing.
The rich architectural and archaeological heritage provide for excellent one-day tours; the fascinating towns of Pontivy, Josselin, Dinan and Vannes are full of historical interest.
Then, of course, there are the megaliths, churches and for the stout-hearted there's the 'quest for the Holy Grail' and the Arthurian legend.
To the south, a short traffic-free drive away, is the beautiful Golfe du Morbihan, a yachtsman's paradise, with all manner of water-sports and numerous little islands to visit on the regular ferries.
Or just relax in the sunshine on an endless choice of beautiful beaches.
Additionally the large lakes at Guerledan and Priziac offer excellent facilities for swimming, boating and sunbathing. Each cottage has details of local amenities and resorts to help you plan your holiday.
Located 10 miles south west of Pontivy, Guern is situated in a charming village within the beautiful countryside of central Brittany. It is in easy reach from Roscoff, St Malo, Caen, Cherborg and La Havre ports, Dinard Airport or Calais if you don’t mind the drive (approx. 6 hours). Guern is a small quiet farming community and, when the lights go out, the stars come on in full glory.
The house is 0.5 miles from the village centre where there are 3 bar and a boulangerie set around the church square. There are also 2 Creperies within walking distance.
Activities such as walking, cycling (no need to take the car anywhere for these), kayaking, outdoor adventure parks, horse rising and golf are all nearby. There is plenty to do for adults and children.
Beautiful coasts and beaches such as Carnac, Quiberon, the Gulf du Morbihan or historic towns including Vannes, Lorient, Pontivy, Josselin are all within a 40 mile radius of the house.
The beautiful Blavet Valley is a 5mile drive to St Nicholas half way between Guerdelan (a huge manmade lake) and Lorient. This is a very popular region for water sport, cycling and walking.
The area is wrapped in ‘Brittany Tradition’ and most weekends, during the summer, a local Festival or Fest Noz takes place within 10 miles from the house. Lookout for notices around the village church and local area. These are quite an experience.

"Lovely family home, spacious and very well equipped."
We had a delightful holiday at Le Croix Marguerite. The house is great for a large family. Accommodation is on three levels, with a bath/shower room on each. We loved the sun room. The garden is great for children. There is a tree house which can be accessed by older children. Our kids added a swing to the tree's lower branches for the younger ones to play on. Great fun for all.
We loved it and will definitely go again.
