Le Moulin De Guermeur
About the home
A former 17th century watermill newly opened and rennovated in 2009 (see our website for photos and history of the rebuild - you will find the link at the bottom of this page). The Mill is set in 3 acres of landscaped gardens, a quiet rural location nestled within the heart of the Blavet Valley, famous for it's walks, wildlife, rivers with excellent fishing, golf courses and quaint country character villages. Sometimes late in the evening you may get to spot some of the local wildlife that regularly visit - deer, foxes polecats and minx are to name but a few.
The sleeping facilities in the Mill comfortably sleep 8 with two double bedrooms and 2 twin bedrooms, we also have a cot and highchair available.
Within 4km you will find the village of Guern with it’s local bakery, 2 bars, post office and a restaurant, or in the opposite direction you will find another local village called Melrand again with a bakery, bars and restaurant. Within a 10 minute drive lies the river Blavet where you can learn canoeing or kayaking and then test out your skills on the river course, or you can simply hire a pedalo and explore the river. The river also boasts excellent carp fishing. Our stream also has brown trout and you are welcome to try your luck! Nearby is an international standard golf course (Golfe de Rimaison), and the whole Blavet Valley is noted for walking, cycling and outdoor activities. The main town of Pontivy is only 15km away and boasts excellent shopping facilities, numerous bars and restaurants a lovely river walk and a château to explore.
A TASTE OF FRANCE!
************************
Although there are many restaurants in the area all within a very short driving distance from the Mill, there may be an occasion when you don't feel like driving but don't fancy cooking yourself. We can create for you a Taste of France giving you the opportunity to sample local french cuisine served to you either in the Gite or weather permitting "al fresco" to enjoy the warm summer evenings. A three course meal can be prepared and served to you taken from our menus at 18 euros per person, you can also add a cheese course if you wish, vegetarian meals can also be prepared using our own home grown produce picked daily from our allotment. Children's meals are also catered for obviously at a reduced price. You can contact us for more information on this service but a full description is provided in the welcome pack upon your arrival

The Mill is set within the heart of the Blavet Valley which contains the Nantes to Brest canal. A soft warm climate, with some long hot days in the summer ideal for walking, cycling, outdoor sports and water activities. The nearest beaches are Carnac and Quiberon approx 1 hour's drive. There are lots of places of interest with many "Petites Cities de Caractiere" all within driving distance of the Mill.
The Guermeur area
Guermeur is a rural location but within 5 minutes drive you have two villages (Guern or Melrand) both with bars, restaurants, local bakeries and a village general store. The market town of Josselin boasts an excellent Saturday market which takes over the entire town and afterwards you can relax in one of the many restaurants with a glass of wine and an excellent lunch. The town also includes an enormous château well worth exploring. The pretty town of Rochefort-en-Terre is also well worth a day's excursion - this village wins the best floral display every year and has many historical buildings, bars, restaurants and local artisans. Or you can try the port of Vannes with it's medieval ramparts, old cobbled streets and of course bars & restaurants!

A lovely property with stunning gardens that the children could very happily have spent the entire week exploring. The photographs of the interior probably didn't do the property justice as it was full of character in the (small) living areas and modern and comfortable in the bedrooms. The potential to order home cooked food from the owner was a real bonus and the cooking was exceptionaly good. The only downside was that the 3 out of 4 of the bedrooms had velux windows and there were no curtains/blinds on the velux windows - when travelling with children this is an issue. All in all a great property with stunningly beautiful gardens and one i would happily return to (once blinds have been added to the bedroom velux windows!) |
