Home description
The Linden House is located in the rolling countryside of Creuse, just 10 minutes from the historical market town of Ahun. We are also only 10km from Gueret, which has all the amenities you could need. The gite itself nestles in a small hamlet of 7 houses, and is surrounded by fields and farmland.
Sleeping 6-8, the gite is perfect for families or groups. Guests have full access to the gardens and are welcome to help themselves to freshly laid eggs from our free-range chickens, or to scrump from our organic vegetable garden. A BBQ, picnic tables and garden furniture are provided for all your outside dining and relaxation needs.
The gite is located to the left side of the house, with the owners living on-site in the second property. Help is at hand should you need any advice on any of the number of things to see and do in the area.

The Limousin / Auvergne / Creuse region
Made up of still lakes, fast flowing streams, gentle rolling valleys and forested hills Limousin has only recently become popular with tourists looking for off-the-beaten track holidays where the quintessential old-fashioned image of rural France still exists. Discover its medieval villages, granite churches, magnificent countryside and mouth-watering cuisine at your leisure.
Essentially rural in character, Limousin's unspoilt landscape continually delights those seeking to trade their stressful schedules for a little bit of peace and quiet. Put your hiking boots on and walk the Millevaches plateau or the rolling hills of Monedieres. Kayakers, canoeists and anglers will find what they're looking for on the Dordogne, the Vezere and the Creuse rivers. Play a round on an 18-hole golf resort. And with its many stud farms and certified horse riding centres, it's the perfect place to improve your riding skills.
Enjoy!
Gueret / Ahun area
The local area is perfect for anyone who enjoys outdoor activities. There are endless possibilities for walking and cycling. There are also several great spots for fishing in the local rivers and lakes, for example Le Donzeil, which is around 10km away. We can advise where to get fishing licences and supplies. There are also several nearby golf courses.
Apart from the many activities the natural countryside provides, there are also plenty of local activities to fill the long summer days. Whether it be getting lost in the Giant Labyrinth, visiting the wolf park or swimming in one of the many local lakes (some of which have beach areas with life-guards to supervise bathing), there is always something to do for all the family. Aubusson, with its world-famous tapestries is a mere 30km away and producers of Limousin's celebrated porcelain abound.
There are markets selling local produce in Ahun (Wed morning) and Gueret (Thurs and Sat morning). Throughout the summer, most villages and towns host "brocantes" or "vide-greniers". The locals set up stalls through the village/ town selling anything and everything, from produce from their garden to household trinkets and furniture they no longer wish to keep. These are a great day out where entire villages get together for lunch and a glass or two of rose.
How to get there
Road: We are situated south-east of Guéret, only 40 minutes away from the A20 Paris-Toulouse motorway. See our website for more detailed directions.
Air: Limoges is the nearest airport (approx 1h15 by car). Ryanair fly to Limoges from London Stansted, Liverpool and Nottingham and FlyBe fly from Newcastle and Southampton. Ryanair are opening new routes summer 2009 from Luton, Bournemouth, Bristol and Edinburgh. Bergerac and Poitiers are also well served although slightly further away. See http://www.aeroportlimoges.com/uk/ for more information on flights, car hire etc.
Boat: For those coming by boat, we would suggest using the ViaMichelin Route Planner to calculate your best route (http://www.viamichelin.com). According to this site we are 6hr42 from Calais and 5hr54 from Caen.
Rail: La Souterraine is a little under 3 hours from Paris by train. From La Souterraine there are bus transfers to Guéret and Ahun, although we would strongly suggest hiring a car to make the most of the area.
