The Brittany / Morbihan region

Brittany is a beautiful and sought after holiday region mostly because of its climate and outstanding natural beauty. There is 600km of coastline, with dramatic cliffs and fabulous sandy beaches and hidden coves. Visit the pretty harbours and explore the off shore Islands.
The property is situated in the Blavet Valley. The Blavet river flows through an exceptionally picturesque valley from Hennebont to Pontivy and offers a wide variety of activities and places to visit, yet it is only 20 to 30 minutes away from the beaches around Port Louis and Larmor Plage. With its mild climate this is an ideal location for a holiday at any time of the year.
The river is navigable to Pontivy where it joins the Nantes Brest canal, with relaxing boat trips or canoe hire for the more energetic.
The Guemene sur Scorff / Saint Vincent area
Guemene sur Scorff a 10 drive away, is an ancient and historic market town, dating back to the fifteenth century. With its historic monument and picturesque buildings it provides culture and interest to many visitors every year. Enjoy a walk into the market town and enjoy the three boulangeries, bars and a creperie. There also 2 pharmacies and some gift shops as well as a supermarket and even a pizzeria. For larger shopping trips visit Pontivy which is just a 20 mins drive away or Lorient a large port promising good shopping.
Please note: the world famous Celtic music festival at Lorient in August. There are numerous festivals all over Brittany during the summer.
Ideas for days out:
* Melrand Lake and river weir. Families use this for picnics, swimming and fishing
* Concarneau: Fishing port with a vintage medieval walled city. There are boat trips out to the isles des Glenan, a small archipelage, home to famous sailing school and seabird sanctuaries.
* Josselin: A medieval village dominated by an awesome chateau.
* Quiberon peninsula
* Port Navalo: Beautiful coastal promontory East (across the water)
* Lake Guerledan: North of Melrand/Pontivy, beaches and boat/canoe hire. Bar and restaurant open throughout the day.
* Golf de Rimaison: Lovely 9 hole golf course 9km from Melrand, South of Pontivy
* St. Nicolas Des Eaux: Lovely river ambience with riverside path, cycle hire and boat trips.
* Beaches near Lorient: Lomener Plage cove with rock pools.Lamour Plage/Guidel Plage with long sandy beach, safe for children, bars and restaurants. Guidel good for surfing.
* Pont Scorff Zoo, shows during day and restaurants or bring picnic.
* Quad biking outside of Guemene
* Clay Barn: for children as well as adults who enjoy painting, near Kernascladen.

Guestbook for St Vincent cottage
We enjoyed our week in the cottage in Brittany immensely. Very well equipped and spacious, lovely garden and tranquil surroundings. Ideal for a chill out holiday, but not too far from the various villages and towns of the region.
Les. and Linda from Dorset.
Hi Edie - We had a great time and the cottage was wonderful, beautifully done out and lots of space for us all, the children particularly enjoyed the garden. We had a great time exploring the area but we were always pleased to get back to the cottage at St Vincents, we really liked the peaceful setting. There was nothing to fault.
Elisabeth from Cheshire
We loved the house! It was very relaxing and in a beautiful setting. It has so many of the amenities we needed. Loved the complimentary bottle of wine. Thank you for great memories.

You asked for some comments – there are very few – we had such a great time and you should be very proud of a fabulous cottage, very clean, homely, well equipped and tastefully done too!!
Garden loungers perhaps, poker etc. for the fire would be the only two small suggestions.
Took us a day or two to spot the clothes line! We also took the wrong fork having turned off the main road – perhaps that needs a little refinement in the directions.
We will certainly be back if in that area – we will have no hesitation in recommending to any friends or family.
Thanks for letting us stay......sooooooooooooo peaceful!.

We'd a lovely time in your home.
Your house is truly lovely and very much a home from home and far superior to a lot of holiday accommodation I've encountered in my time. It was very clean, tidy and the garden very well kept, and it was a joy to see the freshly-mown grass. The whole place is very well cared for and maintained. A few very minor bits of feedback:
1) A couple of larger drinking glasses are needed. I did leave a few behind me for the next guests
2) The driving instructions you gave from Guemene sur Scorff are perfect, however, you omitted to say that the house is directly opposite the church. We arrived in St Vincent exactly as you had directed, but when we got there we didn't know where the house was and had to surreptitiously creep up to the door and peek in through the window. I recognised the table and chairs from the photos on the web, plus the bottle of wine that was very thoughtfully waiting for us.
3) The garden bench/table is not very comfortable for dining outdoors. We did find some chairs in the garden chalet which we used at either end of the table, but those of us who had to sit on the benches had no back support. If you are thinking of changing the garden furniture, I think it would be preferable to have a table and chairs, rather than a picnic-style arrangement.
We really enjoyed our visit and thanks for making your lovely house available to rent.
Best wishes
Denise
Edie
Have been meaning to email you but it always seems busy returning from a holiday. We had a lovely holiday, thank you, and thoroughly enjoyed staying in your cottage - which was beautiful and certainly well equipped. Our only comment would be that we had trouble locating the cottage when we arrived at St Vincent and perhaps you could add something to your directions. We ended up phoning Mr and Mrs Jones who were very helpful and point us to the green gates opposite the church.
We were very lucky with the weather too and had beautiful warm sunny days throughout and enjoyed a few days on Carnac beach relaxing in between visiting some new places and revisiting some places we had been to before.
We still love France and will continue our exploring of this beautiful country and who knows we may well return to St Vincent in the future. In the meantime, we will certainly be recommending it to our friends and family.
Thanks again.
Helen

Hi Edie,
Got back last night after a long day's drive. We loved your cottage - it is so quaint. How old is it? We rather fell in love with a cast iron plaque in the front garden with a deer standing in a wood - where did you find it? It's beautiful.
We had a really enjoyable week and the weather was incredible. We loved the peace and quiet and the novelty of no cars! We explored a little locally and further afield to Vannes which we really loved.
I hope you don't mind if I just make a couple of suggestions - this is just my opinion remember! As it was rather warm all week it would have been nice to have a summer quilt and some large glass tumblers (the ones you have are quite small). Also, your kitchen is very well equipped and the addition of a set of weighing scales would be great.
Thank you again.
Best wishes,
Sharon
