“Every Bit as Good as the First Stay!” Review by Robin & Joyce October 2014 We Stayed in 2013 and had a most enjoyable and relaxing stay so we returned in 2014 and weren't disappointed in any way. We again found a very warm welcome, cleanliness and comfort and the most generous welcome pack around! Orchid Barn is set in a most lovely rural area, tranquil set in rolling countryside yet the nearest friendly village is only minutes away. We found lots to see and do even on our second visit, Brittany is really stunning, the markets are a must. Brittany Spa Cottages are ideally placed for touring by car or cycling and there's good walking too. The owners who live on site are very friendly and helpful but also very discrete, they really want you to enjoy your holiday to the full. Aside from the setting of beautiful traditional farm buildings the large on-site hot tub is fantastic and not to be missed; a perfect end to the day. We'll stay again.
WE ONLY HAVE 2 RENTAL COTTAGES here, 2 bedroom & one bedroom; and each one is totally independent and detached from one another. Both have a lovely private, sunny garden to the rear and enjoy private use of the hot tub every day with alternated sessions.

Brittany Spa Cottages is superbly situated near to the large historic town of Pontivy.
Deep in the heart of the Scorff River Valley, you will find our luxury French cottages the perfect base to explore & discover this stunning Celtic corner of France. Of course the 750 miles of magnificent coastline is one of Brittany's major attractions; whether you prefer wide, white sandy beaches, secret coves, pretty ports or jaw dropping dramatic cliffs, Brittany has it all!
But Southern Brittany is just as beautiful and varied inland, with many lakes, rivers, historic towns, chateaux, magical forests, mysterious megalithes and fabulous French markets to explore.
For those seeking an active holiday you will not be disappointed! Here are some of the many activities Brittany has on offer:
Sailing, fishing, golf, horse riding, cycling & mountain biking, walking & hiking, boat cruises, scuba diving, quad biking, water sports, canoeing & so much more!!
Our 5 star self catering cottages are just a 3 minute drive from the village of Langoelan where you will find a very pretty church, 2 restaurants including a new French Bistro, and small shop where you order your fresh croissants for breakfast! There is also large lake with nice walking/cycling track and boardwalk - attracting many birds & other interesting wildlife.
Guemene-sur-Scorff, a pretty medieval village with ancient houses, cobbled streets & ruined Chateau right in the heart of town, is just a 5 mile drive from Brittany Spa Cottages. This is a lively village and is home to many festivals & fairs throughout the season. Here you will find a number of shops, bars and restaurants plus pharmacies, banks, doctors, new-agents, grocers and an excellent tourist office. There is also a large Intermarche supermarket just on the edge of town.
Pontivy is a large attractive town, 25 minutes drive from your luxury holiday accommodation. Here where flower adorned bridges crisscross the Nantes-Brest Canal, you will find a town with two distinct parts:
A medieval sector with half timbered buildings and narrow, twisting cobbled streets and the beautiful chateau des Rohan whose origins date back to 1479. Then there is the Imperial sector, with straight, stately avenues & buildings created on the orders of Napoleon who aimed to make Pontivy a great military base. For a while Pontivy was known as Napoleonville!
Pontivy has many excellent shops and restaurants and two large supermarkets on either side of town. With Nantes-Brest Canal running right through the town it's a pretty place to sit and watch the canal-boating activities; or even hire a canoe and paddle off down the canal to visit one of the many picturesque canal-side villages like St-Nicholas-des-Eaux.
Our nearest beach is at the Lac de Guerledan, just a 30 minute drive; a huge & stunning lake stretching for 12km and surrounded by the beautiful forest of Quenecan. which has many scenic trails for walking, hiking & mountain biking. There is a good lakeside restaurant and bar and the pretty sandy beach is considered one of the best inland beaches in France. This is also a very popular center for all sorts of boating activities and water sports.
Nearest coastal beaches are to be found at Le Pouldu, Port-Louis and Larmor Plage, all approximately 55 minutes drive. Port-Louis retains much of its charm and character with an imposing Citadel guarding the mouth of the rivers Scorff & Blavet.
Larmor Plage, close to the commercial town of Lorient, is a huge expanse of golden sand which is popular with kite surfers and families.
The Golfe de Morbihan
Around Vannes & the Golfe du Morbihan
Just over an hours drive south east brings you to the large, medieval cathedral city of Vannes. Pass through the busy modern city to discover the walled old quarter, full of ancient half timbered buildings, narrow streets & elegant shops & restaurants.
Vannes has a large attractive marina and is a great base to begin your tour of the Golfe de Morbihan either by car, boat or on foot!
THE GOLFE DU MORBIHAN, is the jewel in the crown of Southern Brittany. Literally meaning 'little sea' in Breton, this landlocked lagoon is dotted with 100's of picturesque islands, most of which are only inhabited by wildlife. The best way to see the Golfe is by boat; take an organized cruise, or hire a motor boat or sailing dingy and discover deserted beaches & hidden coves for a bit of skinny dipping!
For walking enthusiasts the well marked coastal path is a great way to explore the Golfe. From Larmor Baden it is possible to walk across to the pretty Ile Berder via a narrow causeway. But make sure you take note of the returning tide times at the entrance if you don't want to swim back to port!
AURAYis quaint small town with lots of little shops and an excellent market on Monday mornings. Walk down the steep streets to the picturesque old port of St Goustan and here you will find many good restaurants along the water's edge.
CARNAC, just to the south of Auray, is world famous for its excellent collection of prehistoric mysterious stone monuments. These megalithic Alignement sites are home to some 3000 menhirs (standing stones) Dolmens & Tumulus.
Carnac also has a small up market village & resort with an excellent pure white long sandy beach.

Right from the front door of Jasmine cottage or Orchid Barn, you can start with the leisurely 5.3 km walk 'Boucle du Paradis' which takes in the nature reserve of the nearby Etang du Dordu at Langoelan.
With its 3,500 kilometres of coastline, huge lakes and many rivers, Water sports enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice in Brittany! "An idyllic getaway"
A most comfortable and cosy cottage set in the heart of Brittany in superb grounds and surroundings, with tasteful decor and furnishings (particularly the 'Sleigh Bed!). Very careful thought has gone into guests requirements and the welcome hamper was so generous. Our hosts, Denise and Julie, were warm, welcoming and a delight to meet. We had a fabulous 12 days' stay and would not hesitate to recommend either of the 2 cottages to anyone. BOOK NOW!

"Luxury Accommodation in Central Brittany"
Orchid Barn is the ideal place to spend a comfortable and relaxing break in Central Brittany. The accommodation is finished to a high standard, equipped with all the essentials and many extras such as free wifi, a welcome pack and, of course, the hot tub. On arrival we received a very warm welcome from the owners who ensured everything was provided for our stay. The private garden was the perfect spot to enjoy the late September sunshine both in the mornings and evenings. The property is set in a quiet location but with easy access to all main routes, making it an excellent base for touring the area.

"What Lovely Peaceful Place to Stay in Brittany"
Orchard Barn is one of two rental properties on small converted farm in beautiful rolling Breton county side. Having stayed in many rental properties in France we can certainly endorse Orchard Barn as one the best! On arrival we received and warm welcome from the owners Denise and Julie and were shown into the property which was spotlessly clean and really well appointed, being ideal for two people. A very generous welcome pack ensured that we had the 'essential' cheese and wine etc for our first night. We had access to the lovely hot tub spar during afternoons and evenings on alternate days so it was a real treat to be able to drink some fizz under the stars! There are loads of things to do in the area with the coast being about and hours drive away but Orchard Barn is also well suited for just lazing around and taking in the lovely views and peaceful atmosphere. We would definitely consider going back!

"Superb, comfortable location for exploring all parts of Brittany"
Orchid Barn is an ideal location for touring all around Brittany but it is essential that you have a car and possibly bikes for getting around. The cottage itself is extremely well equipped and very peaceful and comfortable. Set in rural Brittany, we managed to visit both rural and coastal parts of the Morbihan and South Finistere regions of Brittany with nowhere more than an half an hour to an hour and a half away. The main roads north, south, east and west are all easily accessed making this cottage ideal for anybody that wants to do lots of exploring. When we were here the roads were not terribly busy although do look out for the 3 Day Plouay cycling event! The owners were extremely kind and helpful and provided some lovely local goodies to start us of. We used much of it to take on a picnic to Lac du Guerledain, a short 20 minute drive to the north. While there to provide assistance if required, Denise and Julie were also happy to leave you on your own without interfering in any way which was very much appreciated. The well maintained jacuzzi was a welcome and relaxing end to each days trip. All in all a fabulous holiday to be highly recommended.

"Chilled out in Brittany"
A tranquil oasis 'far from the madding crowd'. A warm welcome from owner Denise who led us round the beautifully appointed gite and explained the workings of the hottub- a bonus we made lots of use of. Complimentary toiletries, wine and food basket gave us a pleasant surprise. Everything in this gite is spot on- excellent quality furniture including the most comfortable bed we have ever used. The outside space is completely private and the gardens beyond the patio are well kept and attract many butterflies. You are well placed for visits to both the north and south coast of Brittany and the nearby town of Guemene has a good sized supermarket for food. We felt very relaxed and comfortable here. The owners are available if you want them but they do not intrude. Overall gthe best gite we have ever stayed in.

"Rejuvenating, relaxing and discovering holiday"
Arrived to discover Orchid Barn was truly a beautiful part of old farm buildings which glows when the sun shines and remains equally beautiful when a shower arrives. Immediately you sense the tranquility of the accommodation and location. Very green and luscious surroundings so if you want to escape from the constant noise of the outer world this is where the calm is. The accommodation is spacious and very comfortably furnished with everything you need at hand. You could choose to lose yourself in a good book tucked away from all things fast and furious or disappear into the surrounding area and discover walks, small towns, and good restaurants. Further afield yet not to far you can visit the costal areas with good sandy beaches and interesting places. Overall we had a rejuvenating holiday.
