El Ladero Grande is perfect and economical for couples, families or groups of friends. The standard tariff is based on the number of occupants - so our prices are always fair - whether for 2 people or 9! Rates showing are the base rate for 2 people, with additional guests at just 3 euros per night. Visitors under 3 years old stay with us free (free travel cot and “toddler pack” can be made available on request). Click BOOK NOW and enter your dates and number of guests to check the latest competitive rates for the dates of your stay (still some last minute ski season availability). Or enquire direct - we are happy to answer any and all questions about the property or the area. El Ladero Grande waits to welcome you!

The property offers sun-filled, spacious, and welcoming accommodation, free wine and tapas on arrival, soaring views, great little eateries to discover within strolling distance, majestic nature and outdoor possibilities all around in the Sierra Nevada National Park, and beautiful historic Granada on the doorstep. We are endorsed by the Andalucian Tourist Board and many returning customers and positive client feedback have helped to win us a Trip Advisor Award for EXCELLENCE for 2 years running.

This large, well-furnished and family friendly apartment enjoys beautiful views of the Sierra Nevada mountains (dual aspect windows and French Doors in the living and dining areas give this space literally 'wraparound scenery'). On the practical side, the price includes central heating in winter, air-conditioning in summer, secure parking, Satellite TV, high standard of furnishings & equipment & complimentary local wine and tapas to welcome you on arrival (juice and biscuits for younger visitors). There is free community wifi in the village (easily accessible from bars and restaurants in the centre) - but as we are not able to always guarantee reception in the apartment, we have also installed an additional high speed mifi unit which guests can top up easily if they wish (10 euros of credit gives 750 Mbs of data). The village is a fabulous year round location for both summer holidays and winter skiing and El Ladero Grande offers a relaxed, comfortable home-base from which to enjoy everything that this richly diverse region has to offer.

We also provide an extensive DVD library, books and games, plus a pool/snooker table for family fun and some equipment for smaller visitors (please tell us at the time of booking if you need our 'toddler pack' with cot, highchair seat adaptor, or an additional Z bed for a child in the master bedroom). The village itself is very child friendly - all of the restaurants welcome children and there is also a lovely new play park.

Accommodation details:

The apartment has a large master suite (with double bed), which opens onto the lovely terrace. The second bedroom also has a double bed and the third is equipped with twin beds. For even larger groups there is also a quality double sofabed in the spacious living room. There is a well equipped kitchen, and two bathrooms (an en-suite to the Master bedroom and a larger, family bathroom).

The private terrace has ample space for airy dining and lounging amid the lovely mountain views (guests particularly like our fabulously comfortable 'daybed'). It is also equipped with a large garden table and chairs, loungers, and a BBQ. The covered section of the terrace has the games area with pool table.

The location is only 20 mins from Granada/Alhambra Palace and about 25 mins from the ski resort. The pretty coves of the Costa Tropical are also within easy reach with 45 mins - with some great 'chiringuitas' where you can eat fresh fish right on the beach. The traditional white village of Guejar Sierra itself has great tapas bars, restaurants, local shops, pharmacy, bank and two lovely pools in summer. Our friendly keyholders are happy to give advice and can help organize chef services, tapas tours, hiking, biking, horse-riding, canoeing, treasure hunts for children and babysitting.

Guejar Sierra is also famous for its cherries - so just ask our keyholders if you wish to sample some local, organic, cherry jam!

Sierra Nevada ski resort:

The apartment is ideally placed for skiing at Pradollano (Sol y Nieve Ski Resort) in the Sierra Nevada. The Sierra Nevada boasts the highest downhill runs in Europe as well as being the most southerly - so it often enjoys better snow than the Alps. The resort - with its superb services and installations was built for the Winter Olympics and offers its visitors a wide range of facilities and a ski terrain to suit skiers & boarders of all standards. There are 70km of ski runs, 45 pistes and 300 snow machines guaranteeing snow on the slopes. There is also night skiing by floodlight! As one of Europe's highest resorts it has a surprisingly long season and traditionally opens at the end of November running through to the end of April or even into the first week of May. The resort is so far south that the climate is superb for brushing up on your tan and on clear days there are views of Africa from the top!

AFFORDABILITY

Competitive pricing based on number of occupants not size of property (ie: smaller groups mean smaller overheads in terms of laundry/electricity etc - we onpass these savings to the customer in order to offer the best value for a property of this size and standard).

For larger groups of friends wishing to travel together - we can rent El Ladero Grande together with El Ladero Pequeno - the 1 bedroomed apartment next door, or with a choice of 2 bedroomed apartments in the same building.

GETTING TO US & GETTING AROUND

We are happy to share advice on flights/routes/timings/car hire etc which we have found to be cheapest.

Guejar Sierra is great base for visiting Granada and has an excellent bus link so - depending on the type of holiday you envision - car hire may not be necessary.

NEW FOR 2013

Handy cheap ski hire (inc magnetic ski carrier for car) and/or transport up to the ski lifts now available right from the village. Please ask for further info. Same company offers horse-riding and mountain bike hire in summer.

The Andalucia region

Almost unrivalled for beauty and architectural splendour, the entire city of Granada has been declared a national monument. It lies at the foot of Spain's mightiest massif, the Sierra Nevada. At the heart of the city, on its hill, rises the imposing Alhambra - one of the most beautiful buildings the world has known. Built under the Nasrid Dynasty in the 14th century, the Alhambra is a series of wonderful palaces, fountains and gardens.

Old Moorish Traditions

On the opposing hill, facing the Alhambra is the old Moorish casbah called the Albaicin, a fascinating labyrinth of narrow streets and whitewashed houses with secluded inner gardens, known as 'cármenes'. The Plaza de San Nicolas, at the highest point of the Albaicin, is famous for its magnificent view of the Moorish palace.

Many of the city's beautiful squares, including Bib-Rambla & Campo del Principe were originally used for the Moorish lists - where noblemen jousted on their fine steeds. Later the Inquisition judged, and burned their victims at the stake in these same squares.

To the north of Bib-Rambla is a tightly-meshed grid of alleyways and shops, decorated with Moorish arches - the Alcaicería. This is a remnant of the Great Medieval Bazaar to which merchants once came from all over Islam and Christendom. It was famous for its silk, for Caesar had given the Moors an exclusive license. In gratitude they called all such bazaars Al-Caicería, or 'Caesar's Place'.

Guejar Sierra

Nestled just to the East of historic Granada in the heart of the Sierra Nevada National Park - the pretty little town of Güejar Sierra, with its cobbled streets and flower draped balconies is not only close to the Sierra Nevada Ski Resort but also a hitherto undiscovered gem - a well kept Spanish secret.

Güejar Sierra is a small mountain town or large village, preserving the traditional mountain architecture of the region at its heart. It is skirted by the crystal clear waters of the River Genil and perched in a dramatic position on the slopes of the Cerro del Calar - with panoramic views of the rugged Sierra Nevada mountains just at the point where they dip their toes into the beautiful Canales reservoir. Guejar is the departure point for the main footpaths of medium and high mountain ascent into the Sierra Nevada, such as the Vereda de la Estrella (path of the star). The surroundings offer the visitor great natural beauty, chestnut forests, old quarries of serpentine and green jasper and the historic remains of the old funicular (built by an eccentric Italian Duke) which used to wind its way up the Sierra Nevada. Two of the attractive old stone tram stops in Maitena and El Charcon have been converted to lovely restaurants on the banks of the Genil, where the fresh, clean waters are delicious for a swim in the summer. The Canales reservoir also offers diverse activities and some nautical sports.

Güejar has a good choice of interesting tapas bars and good restaurants - both within the town itself and in the surrounding area. Many of the restaurants have summer terraces where you can eat and enjoy breathtaking views at the same time and some also have summer pools. Or if you want to visit the beach during your stay, the Costa Tropical is still only 45 minutes away.

Our cleaning lady has always been excellent and very thorough and we have certainly never previously received anything less than praise for the high standards of presentation and cleanliness in this property. However I have requested that the local property manager makes an additional check on the property in future to ensure that everything is 100% up to standard and presented as we would expect if staying there ourselves!

Sorry to hear that the client could not find the English channels on the Satellite system. The keyholders are only a phonecall away and are very happy to answer any questions. However we will also take this feedback onboard and provide full instructions on the satelllite in the house book for future clients.

The kitchen should be fully equipped and we will check what's happened to the sieve!!

Very glad to hear that the clients enjoyed their stay.
