The Valenciana region
The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region
The summers are dry and the winters very mild. It's claimed the area has more than 320 days a year of bright sunshine. The climate is generally slightly more agreeable than the rest of the Costa Blanca because the mountains being farther away from the coast, generate a pleasant breeze in the heat of the day. The Torrevieja Salt lakes help to make the area one of the healthiest places in Europe! - so says the World Health Organization.
The beaches around Guardamar are long and shallow and in common with most Costa Blanca Beaches are awarded the coveted "Blue Flag" each year for facilities and water quality. In Guardamar there are sand dunes and historic pine forests close to the sea.
The community(El Raso) commercial centre is within walking distance (approx 4 mins) and features a number of bars and restaurants. A wide variety of entertainment, bars and restaurants are available in Guardamar or Quesada and Torrevieja is only a few minutes more. Essentials can be bought close by whilst the nearest large supermarkets are Consum at Quesada and Mercadona in Guardamar about 4 kms away.
Guardamar del Segura
The Guardamar del Segura / El Raso area
Besides golf and the beaches there is the famous open air market held in Torrevieja, the nearby town, every Friday. You'll need plenty of time to see it all as it's huge and sells all types of food, spices, clothing, textiles and plenty more. There is also a Market within Close Walking distance at El Raso (Campo De Guardamar) which is growing all the time with international food and everything you could possible need.
Guardamar and Torrevieja, the closest Spanish towns have retained much of their atmosphere and many Spaniards choose to spend their holidays here each year. There is an abundance of good restaurants and bars in the towns, providing a lively nightlife and there is also an evening street craft market held most nights. If you're lucky your visit will coincide with one of the many festivals held in the town including the famous Habenerasin Torrevieja.
However, if you still feel the need spend a day at a tourist spot then Benidorm is just an hour & a half away by car and a visit to Terra Mitica, the new theme park is a must. The ancient cities of Alicante, Murcia, Elche and Cartagena are much closer and are extremely interesting, well worth visiting if you find the time full of history
Cartagena is actually the Town where Hanniball Started his famous Walk
There are marinas in Guardamar,Torrevieja, Cabo Roig and Campoamor, where day fishing or boating trips can be booked if you wish. Tennis and horse riding facilities are nearby.
The salt flats adjoining El Raso form a nature reserve which is home to flamingos and all sorts of wild life.
