The Costa Tropical/Granada region
The valley of Los Guajares in enchantingly beautiful and enjoys a subtropical climate, with warm winters. Its proximity to the coast makes the summers pleasantly cool by comparison with inland. It is twenty minutes drive from the nearest coastal resort, Salobrena, and a further fifteen minutes to Almunecar, the flagship holiday resort town of Granda.
Motril , a coastal town of 50,000, is twenty minutes away, and Granada city, with its historic Alhambra and other attactions, is under an hour's drive. The Sierra Nevada ski resort is about half an hour's drive from Granada. .
Guajar Faraguit area
There are many good walks in the valley, including one to a ruined medieval fortified arab village, set high on a ridge overlooking Guajar Faraguit. Other places to visit are a picnic spot, with tables and seats under the trees, and close to a waterfall, and a swimming area, made by damming the river in the summer.
The scenery in all directions is stunning, and there is a large choice of walks The villages themselves are enchanting, whitewashed and largely unspoiled, and there are several bars that also serve food, local cuisine, abundant and very good value.
How to get there
Guajar Faraguit is an hour and a half from Granada airport, and about the same time from Malaga airport. There is also a limited bus service from Granada, and Motril, to the village.
