The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region
The Costa Blanca is situated on the east coast of Spain and is considered to be one of the most beautiful places in Europe. One of the reasons that the World Health Organisation considers this region to have one of the healthiest climates in the world is that each year there are on average more than 320 days of sunshine and the average daily temperature is19 degrees. The endless sandy beaches have given it its name Costa Blanca (the White Coast).
The Costa Blanca is a paradise whether you like to stay on the beach the whole day, play golf or scuba dive in crystal clear waters. The nightlife features everything you would want from a nice quiet gourmet dinner to an all night party - catering for all ages and all tastes. Take your pick from quaint Spanish villages where time seems to have stopped or a skyscraper resort (like Benidorm) which never sleeps.
Guadalest area
Guadalest is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Spain and is considered by many to be a thrilling and uplifting experience. Occupying one of the most stunning positions in Spain, this small village is precariously perched on the pinnacle of a granite mountain, giving fabulous views across the valley carved out by the River from which the village takes its name. Getting to Guadalest by the twisting road that climbs ever upwards, passing through the village of Polop, is almost as spectacular as the position of the village, but the breathtaking views make the drive worthwhile even for the more nervous passengers!
On reaching Guadalest you can see why the Moors, who constructed castles to defend the area, considered this place a site of strategic importance. Some of these castles were unconquerable and the remains of several can still be seen today, even though they were bombarded in the 18th century during the Spanish war of Succession. However the building you will see on most of the postcards is the whitewashed bell tower of Penon de la Alcala which seems to cling to the mountain face. Intriguingly the old village and castle is accessed through a tunnel carved from the rock and when you reach the other end and see the ancient houses, you seem to have been transported to another age.
On the way up to Guadalest are the stunning waterfalls at "Fonts de Algar" - well worth a visit to this renowned beauty spot.
Your holiday base in Guadalest is conveniently situated for those who like a quiet "sun-filled" relaxing time but also want to take advantage of local attractions at Benidorm like Terra Mitica Theme Park, the newly opened Terra Natura Theme Park, the Mundomar Marine and Exotic Animal Park and the Aqualandia Water Park. All these attractions plus Benidorm are just 30 minutes away by car from the apartment.
Overlooking Benidrom are two new 18 hole golf courses - the Executive and Championship courses - with the former opening at the end of November 2005 and the latter in 2006. These are excellent tests of golf and are complemented by the 19th hole imposing clubhouse and facilities. For keen golfers there are many other courses along the coast - four around Alicante, a spectacular 9 hole course at Altea (Don Cayo), and the championship standard courses at La Sella between Javea and Denia and Oliva Nova. Please let us know if you want to book tee times - advisable!
Benidorm has a youthful and pulsating nightlife with many discos and nightclubs, endless bars and fine restaurants. Here you can party till dawn. Benidorm has two crescent shaped beaches (the Levante and Poniente beaches) with golden sand that is always well cared for and clean. You can also sample a terrific international show at the world renowned Benidorm Palace. There is a bus service to and from Benidorm and taxis are available at very reasonable rates.
