The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region

Languedoc has the highest annual sunshine average in France and with more than 300 days of sunshine per year. The summer heat is moderated by a northern breeze providing an agreeable climate.

Languedoc includes not only the region known as the largest "vineyard" in the world, there is also the magnificent scenery of the Cévennes mountains to the north and the Pyrenees to the south.

Gruissan area

Gruissan is on the Mediterranean coast near Narbonne, between the hills of the Clape (rocky hillside of pine trees and vineyards known as the garrigue), the lakes frequented by the pink flamingos, and the Mediterranean sea, with miles of beaches of fine white sand. Gruissan was originally a fishing village on a small island surrounded by marshland. The narrow streets of Gruissan village encircle the ruined 13th century castle tower. In the last twenty years a new yachting marina with holiday apartment buildings around the palm-lined quays, have turned it into a superb holiday destination in the Languedoc.

Gruissan is a small resort with everything you need for a great holiday. Miles of clean uncrowded beaches with fine sand, warm seas and safe bathing for children. There is a wide range of sporting and aquatic activities for all the family including windsurfing, sailing, riding, cycling and an amusement park. Apart from the Casino and the four nightclubs, there is plenty of night life in the bars and restaurants around the marina, where you can dine while overlooking the yachts and listen to live musicians playing all types of music.

Gruissan offers a delightful combination of the traditional France, the picturesque village life, the vineyards, with the more modern attractions of the beaches and watersports

Further details outdoors:
Only a minutes' walk takes you to the Harbour, lined with beautiful boats and excellent restaurants. In the summer Gruissan has a real buzz with outdoor seating in the numerous restaurants and live music playing in the evenings.

Five minutes in the other direction, you'll find the the old village of Gruissan. This is a charming, traditional French village with quaint streets. A market fills these streets around 3 times a week where there is an abundance of local produce to buy. There are also a number of restaurants to choose from.

Then either by car (5 minutes) or a good 20-30 minute stroll, you'll find Gruissan Plage. The long stretch of white sand right on the Mediterranean is a fabulous location for sea bathers, wind surfers, jet ski or just soaking up the sunshine. There are restaurants to choose from here also.

If you love the beach but don't want to travel so far, there is a smaller local beach situated just beyond the harbour. This is just 5 minutes from the apartment.

Also in the summer 'le Petit Train' tours the resort with numerous drop-off points on the way - a great way to get around and avoid using the car.
