Home description

The apartment is spread over two floors in an old stone house (18th century) on the edge of Montelaterone. It has been very carefully restored and redecorated - mixing all the eye-catching features of the old house: big wooden beams, stone tiled floors, large shutters on the windows, huge open fireplace and more, with the comforts of a modern house.
The apartment can comfortably sleep four in the two double bedrooms and a further two on a double sofa-bed. The master bedroom and the sitting room with balcony - containing the sofa bed - are on the upper floor. The kitchen, fireplace and living / dining room are all on the ground floor as is the shower room / toilet
and second bedroom.
Reach all the most beautiful cities and towns in Tuscany, sample the Brunello of Montalcino, the Pecorino cheeses of Pienza. There are stunning views of Monte Amiata, the surrounding villages and valleys from the balcony and downstairs windows. We have furnished and decorated the apartment in a simple and tasteful way to make it comfortable and easy to live in.

The Tuscany region

Tuscany is renowned throughout the world for its art, history and beautiful landscape. Central Tuscany has Siena at its heart. It is an agricultural area of great scenic beauty, noted for its historic walled towns such as San Gimignano and Pienza, the hilltops towns of Montalcino and Montepulciano. The rolling hills are filled with wine yards and olive groves, sunflowers in the summer and chestnuts in the later seasons.
Around Monte Amiata, there are many natural spas to visit as well.

Grosseto area

Monte Amiata provides a paradise for walkers in the summer and for skiers in the winter. The outline of mount Amiata (1,738 m.) dominates the area and can be easily seen from the hills near Viterbo, from the Trasimeno valley and the Tyrrhenian coast; it is the only, real mountain in southern Tuscany. Mount Amiata owes its origin to several impressive eruptions which took place 300,000 years ago; it still has hot springs and the typical fertile soil of volcanoes. From the height of 1000 metres up to the peak, there is lush forest of beech, chestnut and oak; you can enjoy it walking, horse riding or cycling, riding along the marked trails.

"The forest offers serenity and silence, tranquillity broken only by rhythmic beating of wood peckers. Mount Amiata is a natural habitat for many species of fauna, birds of prey, wild boar, deer and squirrels have perfect conditions to prosper. In the undergrowth you can find mushrooms, strawberries and raspberries. On the lower slopes of Maremma side, the high valleys of Albegna and Fiore have a milder environment with olive groves, vineyards and pastures. On the opposite side of Mount Amiata the tilled fields, the rows of cypresses and the ravines of Val d’Orcia bring you back to the heart of Southern Tuscany. "

Many sagre, food festivals, start in early summer and continue on through the autumn as local specialties (truffles, wine, olive oil) come into season.

Almost weekly in summer season ,the surrounding villages host many festivals. During the summer there is the famous “il Palio”, at Siena a bareback horse race around the central piazza. CastelDelPiano hosts its own Palio.

How to get there

The apartment is best reached via Pisa, Florence or Rome airports. The inexpensive flights offered by Ryanair and Easyjet both fly into Pisa & Rome Ciampino airports as do the more major airlines. The drive through the Tuscan Countryside is approx 2 hours from Pisa and 2 1/2 hours from Rome.

Many of the Car Hire companies offer good deals. If you book your flights with Ryanair they offer discounts with Hertz , equally Europcar & Avis have provided a good and reasonably priced service in the past.
