About the home

The GIAGGIOLO apartment is on the first and top floor of this characteristic barn on the farm estate of Podere Albereto, in the heart of the Tuscan countryside on the rolling hills above Florence, overlooking the San Polo in Chianti valley. The estate of 10 hectares of fields, olive groves and woodland is only 13 km from Florence and 2 km from San Polo in Chianti. At 350 metres above sea-level there is a gentle breeze in the evening so air-conditioning isn't necessary even in the height of summer.
At Podere Albereto you can enjoy a relaxing holiday, admire the breathtaking view of the Chianti landscape under the shade of a pergola, swim in the pool, sunbathe on the terrace, enjoy a home-cooked barbeque accompanied by a Chianti wine or alternatively visit all the cultural and artistic treasures that Tuscany has to offer.
The owners of the property, Fabio and Trinidad, live in the main farm building and are always happy to provide information and assistance about things to do and see in the area and further afield. There are 1000 olive trees on the property and an excellent extra-virgin olive oil is produced and sold on the farm. You may also want to take a look at the beautifully hand-crafted vases, pottery and paintings created by Trinidad in her art workshop at Podere Albereto.

The GIAGGIOLO apartment has an external staircase leading to the independent entrance on the first floor of the barn. There is a spacious living room with a comfortable double sofa bed, a fitted kitchen and dining area with table and chairs, a double bedroom with king-size bed, a bathroom with shower, basin, wc and bidet. The surface area is 45 sqm in all. The barn has been lovingly converted into comfortable holiday accommodation whilst retaining its typical Tuscan features such as wooden beams, cotto flooring and brick-latice windows and also provides modern facilities such as wi-fi internet connection. There is a lovely view of the valley from the windows.

The spacious communal areas on the property include: a swimming pool (9m long x 4.5 m wide x 1.35 m deep), a large sun terrace with sun beds, deck chairs and sun umbrellas, a BBQ with tables for outdoor dining under the shade of pergolas and gazebos and a shaded car park. The whole property is fenced and has a 300 m private road leading to the entrance gate.
Considering the fact that there is only one other rented apartment for max 5 people on the property, the communal areas are never crowded or overused.

The Tuscany / Firenze Province region

Tuscany offers an infinite number of historic and cultural attractions. Florence, birthplace of the Renaissance must be visited for its monuments, cathedral, world famous museums and the Uffizi Gallery. You can get to Florence in under 30 minutes by car from Podere Albereto. Siena, home to the Palio horse race, is only 30 km away and the local Chianti area abounds with magnificent churches, turreted castles, ancient hamlets and gentlle hills adorned with vineyards and olive groves. It goes without saying that this area is also world famous for its great food and wine: Gallo Nero Chianti Classico red wine, the best "Bistecca alla Fiorentina (Florentine t-bone steak) is served in a little restaurant down the road in Panzano, pappa al pomodoro, ribollita. We can recommend some excellent restaurants in the vicinity where you can try the local delicacies and if you like fruit and vegetables you are welcome to try our home-grown produce on the farm.
The property is an excellent starting point for day trips to San Giminiano, Arezzo, Lucca and Pisa. In summer, why not spend a day on the Tyrrhenian coast with its beautiful unspoilt beaches and in the other seasons you can spend a relaxing day in one of the numerous spas, thermal baths and hot springs scattered around the region.

The Greve in Chianti / San Polo in Chianti area

The little town San Polo in Chianti is situated in north- west Chianti, surrounded by hills of about 700 metres. It is an area known for the cultivation of Giaggiolo (sword lily - a plant used in cosmetics) , the Gallo Nero Chianti wine, and extra vergin olive oil.

The village of San Polo is 2 km away. Here you can find a restaurant, a bar, two small supermarkets, a post office, and a bank. The valley overlooking San Polo has a wonderful landscape of undulating hills leading to the river Arno and historical monuments such as the old church of Rubbiana (13th century). It is ideal for country walks - from the fields surrounding the property you can access walking paths of one, two, or six hours, with panoramic views of Chianti and of Florence.

There is a bus stop 1 km away from the house. The bus has connections with the Florence city bus line (ATAF, Number 49) and the coach service (SITA) to Florence and Greve. In about an hour you can reach Siena, Lucca, Pisa, Arezzo or San Gimignano by car. The small centres of Greve, Castellina in Chianti, Gaiole can all be reached by car in less than half an hour.
