Enquire nowThe Tuscany / Firenze Province region
Tuscany is one of the most beautiful Italian region and six of its localities have been inscribed in the UNESCO list of world-heritage sites: the Historical centre of Florence, the Historical center of Siena, the Square of the Cathedral of Pisa, the Historical centre of San Gimignano, the Historical center of Pienza and the Val d' Orcia. You must also visit the other wonderful historical cities like Arezzo, Lucca, Pistoia, Massa Marittima, Cortona, Volterra and Montepulciano and especially the beautiful area of Chianti where is located Poggio alla Croce. Chianti is easiest to explore with a car.
The most likely place to begin the trip is Florence and after they take the most important road to know is the Chiantigiana (SP 222) from Florence to Siena, as it penetrates the heart of the region, Chianti Classico. Without car, the region is accessible with SITA buses from Florence.
The Chianti area is an excellent base from which to explore Tuscany as whole without having to stay in these crowded cities. The countryside is beautiful, and absolute gems that should be visited are the hamlets of Montefioralle Volpaia and Poggio alla Croce and the beautiful towns of Greve, Panzano, Radda and Castellina.
The Greve in Chianti / Poggio alla Croce area
You can discover all the secrets of the typical Tuscan dishes by participating in exclusive typical Tuscan cooking course, learn the art of home-made pasta, make tagliatelle noodles and then taste your creation accompanied by a glass of “Chianti classico”. The course will be held in the kitchen of the “Restaurant Becattini” by the chef and owner “Danilo Becattini”.
You can have a beautiful dinner in our restaurant that is specialized in mixed grilled and roast-meats and especially in the Florentine T-Bone steak cooked in the wood-burning oven. You must taste also our famous 'fritto' (mixed fried food) made, as our grandmothers used to do, in the old black frying-pan. All our dishes are prepared with extra virgin olive oil, locally produced, as most of the vegetable we use. Last but not least our great Pizza cooked on the natural stone of our antique oven. Restaurant Becattini is an unique culinary experience, which we are sure, will make your stay in Tuscany even more memorable. You can visit also the farm “Tenuta La Novella” (1km to the flat). First you will have a interesting walk among the vineyards learning a lot about the history of the farm, the characteristics of its produce and the methods of cultivation.
Afterwards you will enter the wine cellar and the owner will explain you the processes of the wine making from the grape harvesting to the oak barrels in which the wine is born. Finally you will taste the excellent wines “Chianti Classico” produced there.
There is also the possibility to look and discover how is made an original extravergine olive oil at oil mill "Frantoio Pruneti” in San Polo in Chianti (only 4 km to the flat)
