The East Anglia region
'The Retreat' is situated in the Hermanus holiday village that over looks the sand dunes, beach and tranquil village of Winterton-on-Sea.
A brick built holiday home accommodating four people in one double bedroom and one twin bedroom. You enter into an open plan lounge, with television and DVD, a dining area and fully equipped kitchen with a fridge freezer and microwave. The bathroom has a full size bath with overhead shower and electrically heated towel rail. The beds are made up ready for your arrival with the bed linen and towels included in the hirer charge. Electricity is provided via a £1.00 slot meter, which is the property of Hermanus Holidays. Pets are very welcome but Hermanus Holiday regulations state that no pets are allowed during the main school summer holiday period. A car park is a few yards away and a large grass area is immediately outside for exercise or relaxation. There is a no smoking policy within the bungalow.
Uniquely situated beside an ancient lighthouse. above the dunes, sandy beaches and unspoilt fishing village of Winterton-on-Sea. this quiet holiday village is ideally placed for exploring the Norfolk Broads and coast but also has the facilities for those families who seek a traditional seaside holiday. The facilities afforded to guests include a well maintained heated swimming pool, complete with a sheltered sun bathing area and alongside is a modern children's playground. Inside the main building there is a fine restaurant, bar and amusement room. The holiday village also has a launderette.
From 'The Retreat' a short walk takes you to the 'Fisherman's Return' public house. situated in the charming conservation area of Winterton-on-Sea village. Similarly, walk directly from Hermanus holiday village, over the dunes onto the soft sands of Winterton beach. There you can walk for miles in any direction but particularly north towards Horsey, where you will almost certainly encounter seals relaxing on the beach or in the sea, before they all come ashore in December and January to have their pups. The number of pups born last year exceeded 600 - a singularly good reason for staying a couple of nights at this time. A walk or a short drive will bring you to the National Trust's 'Horsey Wind Pump'. Looking identical to a windmill, it is open to the public and the N.T. shop and tea room is nearby. Horsey Wind Pump is situated beside one of the most easterly access points onto the tranquil Norfolk Broads. Day boats can be hired at the nearby village of Martham and Hickling. For those requiring a traditional seaside holiday, complete with amusements, try nearby Hemsby, Caister-on-Sea and of course Great Yarmouth. Further afield are the Norfolk Broads boating centres at Potter Heigham, Horning and Wroxham. A few minutes drive from Wroxham is the ancient City of Norwich, which boasts a Norman castle, 32 medieval churches and shops that put Norwich in the U.K.'s top ten list of retail centres.
The above is an introduction to some of the local attractions. More information can be found in your welcome pack at 'The Retreat' or at the Hermanus reception.

Thank you so much Claire for lovely review. I really have wanted to make The Retreat like home. My husband and I spent the morning up there today. Goodness was it windy but we put the fire on and in no time it was really cosy. I've been and bought some hotwater bottles as I have a few people booked in over the next few weeks and the weather forecast is not good. Anyway, it was lovely having you to stay and please let me know if you decide to come back. Kind regards Linda x

"The Relaxing Retreat"
My 89 year old Mother and I enjoyed a very comfortable 6 night holiday at "The Retreat". The bungalow was very clean, comfy leather sofa's and good beds. Towels and bed linen clean and fresh. Also there were a few essential supplies to welcome us,including a jar of homemade marmalade. Good sea views, beach & dunes accessible directly from site.
The on site Pub & Resturant served very good food.
The "Retreat" is in a very small charming village, just 5 mins walk away, with Mace's shop, Post Office, Good Fish & Chips shop & Pub with excellent food at reasonable prices. All thats left to say is, our holiday was restfull with plenty of peace and quite. We will definitely be returning in the future.
