Norfolk Beachside Retreat
Caravan/Mobile Home | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4
The perfect location - right on the beach!
Escape to the coast and relax in a unique "cool caravan", situated right on the beach with uninterrupted sea and coastal views. Inside the cosy, beach-style static caravan you will be able to unwind and de-stress, with the calming sound of the waves in the background.
Enjoy a brisk walk along miles of clean, sandy beaches or simply soak up the sun, sand and sea as you step outside your door. It is also the ideal location from which to explore the uncrowded Norfolk and Suffolk coastlines, the picturesque villages and the world-famous Norfolk Broads. The Broads at Ormesby and at Filby are just 3 or 4 miles away.
More like a seaside cottage, our individually-styled "cool caravan" offers all the "home from home" comforts you would expect in a self-catering holiday home.
Sleeping 4-6, the accomodation consists of:-
• Double bedroom with TV/DVD
• Twin bedroom (2ft 6" beds, can be pushed together)
• Family bathroom (access from corridor and main bedroom) small bath with shower over, and hand basin
• Separate WC and hand basin
• Fully fitted kitchen with range-style gas cooker, dishwasher, fridge with ice box (small freezer compartment), microwave, toaster, kettle etc
• Living room with corner sofas and stunning beach and sea views, dining table and pull out double bed if required; TV/Video/DVD, radio, CD player; gas fire
Outdoor grassed area alongside caravan with sea views, bench table/seats and parking for up to two cars
On site laundry
If the weather takes a turn for the worse, there are throws, blankets and cushions to curl up in, magazines and books to read, candles for romantic suppers and a selection of DVDs, music and board games. There is also outdoor furniture for al fresco dining and soaking up the sun.
"your caravan is absolutely wonderful, relaxing, interesting, clean and the sea view lovely"
"the caravan is very nice, cosy, homely, lovely"
"the ideal place with the beach and sea so close, and as a base for touring the area"
"the view from your caravan is fantastic, always changing"
"we walked into your caravan and said "Wow" as it is so nice"
"we have visited Southwold and The Broads...and hope to have your caravan again next year"
The caravan is located at Caister-on-Sea, approximately 4 miles north of Great Yarmouth. It is sited at Elm Beach Caravan Park, which is a small, select, 4 star site that prides itself in offering a safe, peaceful and friendly environment where you can recharge your batteries and "chill out". There are no entertainment facilities, such as pubs, shops and recreation areas at this site. However, these are available at neighbouring parks and within easy walking distance. It is also just a short walk into the centre of Caister.
Outside the caravan there is parking for up to two cars, and a grassy area for sitting out at bench table provided. As you walk outside you are literally a few steps from the sandy beach . The beach is quiet even in the height of summer. There was a beach cafe about 100yrds along the beach which was washed away in the tidal surge of late 2013 - hope this will be rebuilt. However there is a friendly cafe in Manor Road 5 minutes walk away, open all year round.
The centre of the village of Caister-on-Sea is only 5-10 minutes walk, with supermarkets for all your needs. There are also restaurants and take-aways eg Indian, Chinese and fish and chip shops. Great Yarmouth offers old fashioned seaside fun for all the family. It is possible to walk there along the beach, or take one of the regular buses from Caister.
The Norfolk Broads are 5 minutes drive away and the location is an ideal base to explore the Norfolk and Suffolk coastlines and quaint villages. The city of Norwich, perfect for shopping, is 1/2hr away by car.
We bought the caravan on a whim, after visiting the Norfolk Broads and ending up at the coast. As we stood on the beach it started snowing - it was magical. We thought how nice it would be to own one of the nearby caravans, overlooking the sea. And that's how we ended up buying a caravan.
Despite visiting several times over the past 4 years, we are still amazed by how much this area has to offer, and how much more there is to discover. Whether you enjoy walking, sailing, fishing (directly on the beach), cycling, wildlife, photography, painting, the thrills of a seaside town, or just watching the world go by, there is something to suit everyone, of all ages.

The East Anglia region
Well, to be perfectly honest, we're not tour guides and we don't know the area that well. We bought the caravan on a whim 3 years ago, after visiting the Norfolk Broads and ending up at the coast. As we stood on the beach it started snowing - it was magical. We thought how nice it would be to own one of the nearby caravans, just a few yards away from us. And that's how we ended up buying a caravan.
Norfolk is apparently one of the driest and sunniest counties in the UK. We have enjoyed many holidays with good weather at the caravan, when it has been raining at our home in Hertfordshire!
The Norfolk Broads - waterways, boating and fishing are 3-4 miles away. You can also cycle or walk on flat land and the area is wonderful for nature lovers. Rare birds such as the bittern, crane and marsh harriers can be seen, as well as the swallow tail butterfly unique to Norfolk. Seals can also be seen, swimming in the sea, from the caravan and if you are lucky, you might spot the occasional dolphin!
There are quaint villages such as Holt, Burnham Market, and Cley next the Sea. Blakeney point has seal viewing trips. Towns on the coast worth visiting include Cromer, Southwold and Walberswick. Norwich is apparently a great place for shopaholics! For food lovers, we can recommend The Swan at Ingham, mentioned in the Michelin Guide, and there are several pubs with good food, such as The Nelson Head at Horsey and the Fisherman's Return at Winterton on Sea. You can also observe seals on the beach - from a viewing platform near Winterton /Horsey. At Horsey you can visit the windmill and it is a great place to enjoy the sunsets.
Despite visiting several times over the past couple of years, we are still amazed by how much this area has to offer, and how much more there is to discover. Whether you enjoy walking, sailing, canoeing, fishing (directly on the beach), cycling, wildlife, photography, painting, the thrills of a seaside town, or just watching the world go by, there is something to suit everyone.
Some of the highlights:-
-eating fish and chips on the beach
-seeing a bittern, marsh harriers and a swallowtail butterfly at Strumpshaw Fen, and Titchwell Marsh RSPB centres
- spotting seals and a dolphin swimming in the sea directly outside the caravan, or from the comfort of the sofa
- a thrill on the Big Dipper and Segway racing at Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach
- collecting "hag stones" (stones with naturally occuring holes through the middle) on the beach
- canoeing for the first time along the Broads (a good test of a relationship!)
Caister-on-Sea is a village within 5 -10 minutes walk. It has all basic amenities, shops, take-aways, restaurants.
You can fish from the beach, or go on fishing trips and also enjoy water sports. Fishermen bring in their catch and nothing is better than fresh fish straight from the beach!
Great Yarmouth is a traditional seaside town 3 miles away. It is possible to walk there along the beach - taking approximately 1 hour. There is a Pleasure Beach with night life and rides suitable for all the family, as well as night clubs, casino and places to eat out.
