Great Yarmouth

A few minutes walk away in the village of California is a lovely Pub, the "California Tavern", where good food and entertainment is available.

There is also a swimming pool and club entertainments, beach shop, fish and chip take-away and Chinese take-away open during the main season

The "Wheelstop Diner" restaurant and the "First and Last" pub are a walk away.

In the village Scratby, a few minutes walk, there is a local mini market and post office, garden and antiques centre, the charming "Moments" restaurant, a bookmakers, all are open all year round. Also available in the main season are "Abigails Bistro", swimming pool, club entertainments, there is also a hire store for deckchairs and windbreaks on the lovely sandy beach.

On May 11th, 1848 a quantity of sixteenth century gold coins was found at the foot of the cliffs near Scratby by local beachmen. At the same time the California gold rush in America was much in the news. The beachmen decided that their new village needed a name – and California, Norfolk came into being. By 1851 houses were being built there. By 1861 when the next population census was taking place the population of this new hamlet had risen to almost two hundred. By 1870 over forty houses had been built, plus the original California Tavern.

"Quiet, relaxing week away"

We stayed in a Hickling chalet for a week. Pretty basic but had everything we needed. You need to take your own sheets, pillowcases and towels or hire them and you need to take pound coins for the e… More

Thankyou for your review. We are glad you found it "a quiet and relaxing week away" and that "one is right on the cliff and it was wonderful just sitting in or out overlooking the actual sea".
The Hickling is our budget accommodation and so we do leave it upto guests to decide to bring or hire linen and to pay for what they use in electricity, this enables us to keep costs down for the Hickling - just £295 for 7 nights in May overlooking the sea on the Norfolk coast! This is also much "Greener" as linen on unused beds is not laundered unnecessarily and electricity consumption is much lower when it is metered.
All our other self catering holiday accommodation includes linen, towels, electricity, gas for central heating in Pine Lodge and oil in Beachside House, but of course the tariffs are a little higher to facilitate this and for "Green" taxes that have to be paid on commercial energy use.
We have checked the WIFI ourselves and with other guests and could not find a problem with it, we do only advertise the free WIFI facility as a free WIFI zone, as there are dead spots in the park, but you will be able to connect to the free WIFI somewhere within the free zone.

Thankyou for your review - glad you enjoyed your holiday with us on the Norfolk coast despite the Arctic weather! The showers are very new and they were probably struggling with the icy water supply.
