The Central England/Cotswolds region

The Cotsowld Hills are famous worldwide as capturing the essence of English country scenes.

Gentle hills and numerous villages, 100s of years old, built of warm stone, with friendly pubs tea rooms and antique shops, capture the atmosphere.

Gentle country walks or strenuous hikes, riding, touring to see the villages and numerous stately homes are all part of the scene.

In summer beautiful rolling fields stretch out, in winter cozy log and cola fires burn everywhere whilst the countryside is wrapped in gentle mist.

Great Rissington

Great Rissington dates back to at least 1086, it still has a population of a couple of hundred.

The church is over 900yrs old, the village pub and green are several hundred years old. There are very few modern buildings. It is a sleepy, friendly village that is off the beaten track, some residents have lived here their whole lives. No tourist coaches here, just country life.

Yet just 5 miles away are the famous centres of Stow-on the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water and Burford. All postcard-picture villages with fascinating antiques shops and long histories.

"Wonderful short break with friends"

I rented the cottage to celebrate my 50th birthday with friends. We found the cottage very comfortable and homely. If you are looking for somewhere quiet and secluded, then this is for you. But there are many things to do and places to visit within a few minutes drive. Great Rissington is lovely with only one pub that serves wonderful food. I would highly recommend Easterleigh Cottage looking for a base from which to explore the Cotswolds.

"Ideal location for a relaxing break"

Fantastic and spacious cottage with four cosy bedrooms and wood burner in the lounge. Located in a quaint village with excellent local pub and access to nearby villages and walks in surrounding countryside. I would definitely recommend Easterleigh Cottage for a relaxing break away.

We spend an awful lot of time trying to find the "ideal" village, glad you thought so too.

"A well equipped, well positioned, lovely little cottage in a love village"

The cottage is lovely. It has everything you could need and everything is finished to a very high standard. Three showers avoid any morning rush and the kitchen, dining room and lounge and great spaces. There's also just about parking for two cars on the drive and there's always space on the (very quiet) road.

The village is beautiful and is surrounded by walks of verging lengths around the stunning Cotswold countryside. Bourton-on-the-Water and Stowe-on-the-Wold are both within a ten minute drive are both typical middle England towns. The local pub is just 200 metres up the road and the staff could not have been more friendly. The food and beer were also excellent.

If you're looking for a high end but reasonably priced cottage in the Cotswolds then this really is perfect.

As it's our own holiday home we equip it to a higher standard than the average self-catering place!

"Our weekend couldn't have been better - a lovely house and everything we could need."

This cottage is the perfect size for 6 people on a weekend break. There are plenty of walks around and the kitchen was fully stacked with cooking implements - very helpful when you're making pancakes, pizzas and fried breakfasts to give you some ideas! The wood burning stove was made the living room very cosy and having 2 areas for dining (kitchen and dining room) meant that we had a very confortable stay.

Delighted, that's exactly what we aim to provide!

"Lovely, well-presented cottage in a very pretty Cotswold village"

We stayed as a large family in Easterleigh Cottage, Great Rissington over Christmas 2013 and found it ideal in every respect. The quality of the furnishings and equipment was excellent and we really appreciated having three bathrooms. Our chief cook pointed out that there are no kitchen scales, but he is unusually precise in his ingredient measuring! We did find that setting the heating system was a bit complicated and we got the timing a bit wrong on a couple of occasions, but generally the cottage was warm and cosy even on those stormy days around Christmas. The wood stove was vey pleasant, though we found the coal briquettes were more efficient than wood. Remember to take some matches! Getting all seven us comfortably seated in the living room was a bit tight, though adequate, but there was plenty of space around the dining table for our Christmas lunch. It was nice having free wifi and being able to Skye with our family members in far away foreign parts on Christmas day.

Though the weather was brutal, we did manage local walks - if you walk across the fields (muddy!!) to the river you may see the very large herd of deer, as well as red kites. The river was in flood at the time and was impossible to cross so a circular walk was out of the question. We visited Bourton a couple of times and particularly enjoyed the model village - rather to our surprise. We had a drink or two and a lunch at the Lamb Inn in the village - a few minutes walk - and found the food and beer to be very good, though not the cheapest. Friendly though, and a nice atmosphere.

Altogether a very enjoyable stay at Easterleigh Cottage. Thank you Mark.

Christmas is an important family time to enjoy yourselves thoroughly and expectations are high. Glad that we lived up to those.

"Great Weekend"

We booked the cottage for a surprise 70th birthday for my mother. The cottage was lovely, ideal especially when you are watching a heron sitting proudly on next doors roof top.

Location great, space and layout excellent especially with 2 teenage boys who slept downstairs. We certainly will be bearing your cottage in mind for future visits to the Cotswold.

Thank for your excellent communication which installs confidence when booking.

What a lovely surprise! We can't own up to arranging the heron, but there is a lot of lovely wildlife in this area of countryside.

"Excellent accommodation and quiet location"

Your cottage was perfect for the 3-day weekend stay.....the weather was also brilliant! The facilities were excellent and were very much appreciated by my wife and myself, son and wife and 2 grandchildren + 2nd son who was getting married in Bourton. The 3 shower / bathrooms provide the necessary privacy for couples. The garden was a bonus as the children are very much the out door kind, although the access at the bottom of the garden onto the road is not secure for young children. The quiet location was also appreciated for the children.....very little traffic. We had Sunday lunch at The Lamb, which was very good, although we were the only people in the dining room over the whole of the lunch time. Spookey! We will recommend your cottage to friends and hope to stay there again for longer and a more relaxing occasion. Although there are many places to eat in nearby Bourton, there are only a few that provide meals on Sunday evenings, one of which is the Italian restaurant, which we would recommend. Also the Coach and Horses for other evenings. And directions to the cottage....just follow the tourist sign to The Lamb!

I am glad that you had a good time and, yes, there is a lovely garden. It's most unusual for the pub to be empty on a Sunday lunchtime!
