The Exumas region

The Exumas, beginning just 35 miles southeast of Nassau, are a 120-mile-long archipelago of 365 cays and islands strewn in the indescribably blue waters of the Carribean like a string of precious gems. Christopher Columbus landed in the islands in1492 and tales of rum runners and pirates have delighted young and old ever since.

Exuma is your escape to one of the most beautiful vacation destinations on earth. White sandbars that seem to go on forever, reefs that are home to hundreds of species of marine life, a world-class golf course designed by golf legend Greg Norman, quiet coves, lush greenery and spectacular sunsets – all this awaits you on your Exuma vacation.

The open waters provide a paradise for boaters, surfers, divers and fishermen. If quiet relaxation is more to your liking, the pretty coves and inlets are perfect for canoeing, kayaking, bird-watching and snorkeling.

In the capital, George Town, visit the quaint shops and browse in the Straw Market where local artisans display their beautiful handmade clothing, baskets, jewellery, etc. while tapping your feet to the traditional goombay music of the islands and absorbing the rich and colorful Bahamian culture.

Visit historic Rolle Town, Rolleville (site of a slave revolt led by the hero, Pompey), Forbes Hill and Williams Town and see the ruins of old cotton plantations and colonial tombs. At While Leaf Cay you can feed tame iguanas and don't miss the swimming pigs near Staniel Cay.

So perfect is the environment for every sort of land and sea wildlife, that the Bahamian government designated a 176-square mile area for the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park which is one of the most successful marine parks in the world.

Bahamians love to celebrate and several major events are held on Exuma during the course of the year so you may want to plan your vacation around one or more of them. In March, enjoy the traditional music of the islands at the annual Bahamian Music and Heritage Festival. The National Family Island Regatta, of traditional Bahamian sloop sailing is held each year during the last full week in April and is the oldest and largest wooden boat racing event in the Bahamas. Then there are the New Year's Day Cruising Regatta at Staniel Cay and the junkanoo parades celebrating Bahamian culture with traditional music and dancing.

Great Exuma

Island Breeze at Palm Bay Heights is located just on the outskirts of George Town, the islands economic center. Simply put, it's one of the best central spots to be on the island for whatever activity you desire. Spend a day out west exploring beaches, historic sites and restaurants. Spend another day out east with more beaches, dining options and historic sites.

Restaurants are close by, and a few nights a week there's live entertainment and various locations nearby. We'll help you plan your vacation once booked and will send you out a copy of our visitor guide with more area details.
