The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Bouches-du-Rhone region

Provence is a place of great beauty,of vibrant colours,of tantalising aromas and sublime wines. Beaucaire and its nearby neighbour,Tarascon, have had their fair share of dramatic historical events and their majestic situation either side of the great Rhone river reflects this.

Every village in the region has its own fete .The people of Provence are very keen to keep their traditions and culture alive and you will see this demonstrated in the fetes and feast days.

There are galleries and museums in most of the towns and some larger villages. The region is famous for its santons (small hand-made figurines) which make ideal presents or collectables and can be a reminder of a great holiday in beautiful Provençal France.

Graveson area

Beaucaire is ideally placed to explore the regions.A short drive from Beaucaire can be found the hectic and dramatic city of Arles .The Saturday morning market is a must for foodies who want to soak up the flavour of local cheese or saucisson and from where you can buy Camargue rice and salt. The narrow streets of the old quarter spin out from the Roman Arena and are full of tantalising boutique shops and busy cafes. Arles is also a gateway to the Camargue with its famous horses and black bulls. The region is a National Park and can be explored on horseback or even four wheel drive vehicles with specialist guides.

Beaucaire is also ideally placed for you to explore the wider region including the sleepy aromatic valleys of the Alpilles.Don't miss Saint-Rémy de Provence with its Roman architecture and the fortified hill top village of les Baux de Provence(the second most visited site in France)Taste and buy the abundant olive in its many forms.
Beaucaire sits alongside the mighty Rhone and a daytime stroll along the harbour with its cafes and boat community will give you a flavour of local life.

Walking and cycling is a joy in or around Beaucaire where the landscape is flat, or for more adventurous and fitter, the surrounding hills. There are many safe routes to explore.

If you like to explore the local Provence markets, you will be spoilt for choice.

Events are almost too numerous to mention, every little village has its own saints day festival, often with a "charette"(cart) being raced through the streets pulled by up to forty heavy horses. There is often live music playing and bull runs.
