Location

This large cottage in Grasmere is truly enviable for its scenic location. With the views beginning at home, you'll be tempted to take on such famous Lake District walks as Silver How, Lang How and Helm Crag. Rising behind the property is the impressive 'Fairfield Horseshoe' - keen walkers will be spoilt for choice.

But a holiday property in Grasmere isn't just a dream for walkers. This historic Lake District village is famed for its connections with the poet William Wordsworth, who lived in the village at Dove Cottage - now owned by the National Trust and open to the public as part of the Wordsworth Museum. Artists will enjoy browsing several watercolour galleries in Grasmere, particularly the Heaton Cooper Studio which displays the Cooper family's famous work as well as that of inspired local artists.

The village centre has all the facilities you'll need during your self-catering holiday in the heart of the Lakes. From local shops and supermarket to quaint tea rooms and acclaimed restaurants - the Good Food Guide-

listed Jumble Room is a treat for a special occasion. For touring by car or exploring the Lakes, the A591 leads you effortlessly south past Rydal Water to Ambleside on the northern shore of Lake Windermere, or north to Keswick and Derwent Water. Also easily found to your south are the breathtaking Langdale Valley and the Lake District's third largest lake, Coniston.

The Lake District

The Lake District is a place like no other. No other region in the world is so packed with such varied and stunning scenery in such as small area– and it's all on your doorstep with easy access by car or rail. The choice of outdoor activities is endless with some of the best walks, climbs and bike rides in the world, beautiful lakes for sailing, canoeing, windsurfing or just a cruise one of several ferry services. The National Park itself encompasses soaring mountains, native woodland (you might see a red squirrel!), lush meadows and of course the many famous lakes themselves. Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter, Ruskin and many more have been inspired by the Lake District and made their homes here. The homes are still here and open to visit and they too are surrounded by majestic mountain panoramas. There also some surprises – kids will love attractions such as the giant i-max screen at Rheged Visitor Centre, Go Ape aerial activities in Grizedale Forest and The World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness. And where better to stay than a classic Lakeland Cottage. Lakelovers have over 400 properties in prime locations within the heart of the Lakes and we specialise in hand-picked properties that we know you'll love. Whether you want a grand property for a family gathering or a cosy bolt hole for two we can't wait to show you what we have for you to choose from. We know The Lakes inside out and we are just a click of a mouse or a phone call away.
