Cottage | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4
This gorgeous character apartment nestles on the banks of the River Rothay, which meanders gently through Grasmere village.
Retaining the character of the original Lakeland stone building, Riverbank has been refurbished with a touch of the contemporary. We particularly love the oak beamed ceilings and traditional windows in both the cosy bedrooms. This location is sublime for a romantic retreat or calming family holiday - soak up the views and relish the peace and quiet, but never be too far from shops, quaint tea rooms, cosy pubs and excellent eateries in Grasmere village centre. In fact, with walks beginning in every direction, you might not need your car during your stay.
Accommodation in detail
Private parking for 1 car. Riverside path to an external staircase with decked patio/balcony. Enter to a bright, modern Shaker style kitchen/dining room with large picture window and large dining table. Opening to the cosy lounge, with deep-cushioned furnishings and subtle contemporary decor. Inner hallway with games desk, leading to ground floor bathroom with shower over bath. A Victorian staircase leads to the master bedroom with king-size double bed, and the twin bedroom. First floor shower room.
Grasmere is a historic village at the very heart of the Lakes, west of Ambleside and north of Coniston and Hawkshead. The village centre has a number of useful shops, market, tea rooms and a select few very good restaurants - including the Good Food Guide listed Jumble Room.
Although hugely popular with tourists and walkers, Grasmere remains a relaxed village location with a real air of history. In the village you can explore the legacy of artists who've been inspired by the landscapes around the village - of particular note is the Heaton Cooper Studio. The famous poet William Wordsworth lived in Grasmere while writing some of his most famous poetry. His former home can be visited at Dove Cottage & the Wordsworth Museum, and his family grave is one of the most visited literary shrines in the world.
A holiday cottage in Grasmere provides easy access to no end of fabulous Lake District walks. Try the route up to Easedale Tarn in the fells above the village, visit the shores of nearby Rydal Water, or take on Fairfield, Silver How or Loughrigg to name but a few!

The Cumbria/Lake District
The Lake District is a place like no other. No other region in the world is so packed with such varied and stunning scenery in such as small area– and it's all on your doorstep with easy access by car or rail. The choice of outdoor activities is endless with some of the best walks, climbs and bike rides in the world, beautiful lakes for sailing, canoeing, windsurfing or just a cruise one of several ferry services. The National Park itself encompasses soaring mountains, native woodland (you might see a red squirrel!), lush meadows and of course the many famous lakes themselves. Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter, Ruskin and many more have been inspired by the Lake District and made their homes here. The homes are still here and open to visit and they too are surrounded by majestic mountain panoramas. There also some surprises – kids will love attractions such as the giant i-max screen at Rheged Visitor Centre, Go Ape aerial activities in Grizedale Forest and The World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness. And where better to stay than a classic Lakeland Cottage. Lakelovers have over 400 properties in prime locations within the heart of the Lakes and we specialise in hand-picked properties that we know you'll love. Whether you want a grand property for a family gathering or a cosy bolt hole for two we can't wait to show you what we have for you to choose from. We know The Lakes inside out and we are just a click of a mouse or a phone call away.

"Great location, but some basics could have been provided"
Booked this week for 3 adults (one of which is 87) and our 12 year old. The location was just what we were looking for right in town. We knew the unit would be kind of noisy since it is right on the… More
