The Lake District conjures up images of magnificent mountains and shimmering lakes and that is exactly what visitors find here. In fact the whole county of Cumbria is home to some of Britain's most beautiful scenery. This region has been a favourite all year round holiday destination for years and apart from its natural beauty it's also packed with lots of attractions and activities that cater for every kind of holidaymaker, from family holidays to romantic breaks for couples and from those who are looking for lots of activities and sports to those that prefer more gentle country pursuits. The Lake District National Park lies at the heart of Cumbria and contains well known and much loved holiday destinations such as Windermere, Bowness, Ambleside, Coniston and Grasmere, here there are lots of charming Lakeland villages to discover and visitor attractions for all the family. The northern and western lakes have miles of untouched natural rugged beauty and rural villages as well as being home to the historic northern lakes town of Keswick with its many shops, pubs and restaurants; providing a great holiday base. Other areas to discover include the Eden Valley, Cartmel peninsula, south east Cumbria and the Carlisle and Hadrian's Wall area; all equally beautiful and very handy for day trips into the lakes.
Grasmere is only a short walk from Poet's View Cottage. The village has a well stocked grocery store and a good selection of pubs for eating out in the evening. Try out The Lamb Inn where you can enjoy a relax atmosphere, locally sourced produce and delicious ales. The village is home to the famous poet William Wordsworth and his two former homes, Dove Cottage and Rydal Mount are both worth exploring. A short drive south brings you to the larger town of Ambleside where there are many places to eat out, local walks to enjoy and lots of maps and tourist information available. Once described by William Wordsworth as 'The most loveliest spot than man hath found'' Grasmere Lake which you have easy access to from Poet's View Cottage provides a lovely spot to picnic, canoe or sail!
