Further details outdoors

Lake and mountain views from the terrace. All the rooms have great views.

South facing terrace with large wooden dining table with sun umbrella and four comfortable chairs. The cottage is perched high up on the hillside, so gets the sun even in winter and at the end of the day when the lower properties lose the sun behind the hills. This is one of the sunniest locations anywhere in the area.

This Grasmere cottage has a wild Lakeland garden, and it is not suitable for unsupervised young children. The garden is on a hillside, and an unfenced stream and waterfall runs through the garden .We do not recommend the cottage for families with young children.

Access is along a bridle track which becomes a walking path only after the cottage. There is ample parking for two cars. From the car parking area there are outdoor steps to the cottage terrace and entrance.

Guests can use the pool and leisure facilities at the Langdale Leisure club.

There are quite steep stairs inside to the bedrooms, and outside steps to gain access from the drive to the terrace which make it unsuitable to guests with walking difficulties. Brockstone Cottage is on the Wordsworth Walk between Grasmere and Rydal. Access is on a tarmac road off the A591 from Wordsworth's Dove Cottage, Grasmere or from White Moss House ,for half a mile, followed by a track for the last 300 yards. In extreme winter weather conditions it may not be possible to take a car all the way to cottage. In this case, guests are able to park their car safely at White Moss House. The track is used by many walkers and we ask that our guests drive very slowly and take great care .

The track after Brockstone becomes a walking path, leading to Rydal Village and on to Ambleside. In extreme winter weather it might not be possible to take the car all the way to the cottage.

Further details

We usually let the cottage for a minimum stay of a week at peak holiday times, but outside those times we may be prepared to accept a minimum of 3 nights, and we can be flexible about changeover days.

For two guests, the cottage is a most romantic private place to stay, and it is a popular location for honeymoons and anniversaries.

The rate we quote are for two people sharing a room. If the second room is going to be used, there may be a small extra charge .

Guests are welcome to use the Langdale Leisure club facilities free of charge.

We are happy to accept dogs by arrangement- the cottage is heaven for dogs! We usually make a small extra charge .

"renamed "mothstone""

nasty carpet in bathroom, smell of mildew permeates throughout, moths show up on bedroom walls at night. son had an asthma attack on first night, rental car scratched driving up the narrow gravel path… More

The guests who left on the day this reviewer arrived have already booked two more visits. They are as mystified as us by this review. You will almost certainly see moths and spiders , as well as butterflies, deer, badgers, red squirrels and abundant birdlife. That's all part of the rich eco system in Lakeland.
The main bathroom has a relaxing spa bath and power shower. Unusually for a 200 year old Lakeland Cottage we have also managed to fit an extra ensuite shower room in the four poster bedroom. Other guests have appreciated this extra facility.
I have read out the comment about the porch to various regular guests to see if they could understand it. No one knows what the reviewer means. The porch is a traditional Lakeland porch, dating from when the cottage was built over 200 years ago. Its style is typical of the vernacular Lake District architecture. Is the reviewer suggesting we should knock it down and replace it with some modern edifice, which would be totally out of character and against our strict planning regulations?
We would love to have had the chance to discuss the reviewers “concerns” face to face, but far from “confronting” us they handed us a note of their complaints as they were leaving, giving us no opportunity address their points.
Obviously the cottage did not suit these guests. We're sorry that they did not enjoy their visit.

"Beautiful Brockstone"

Having stayed twice at this delightful little cottage, Brockstone is a welcome to behold after a long day's walk with its comfy sofas, well equipped kitchen and restful beds.
Situated above White Moss it is far from the madding crowds of Grasmere but not too far to stroll down the hill (and up!) to fetch provisions. The views over Loughrigg are truly awesome and the popular 'Coffin Route' passes by below Brockstone.
My heartfelt thanks go out to the owners who make this a special place to stay. We shall endeavour to return.
