It's always disappointing when people re-arrange the facts to make a good story.
As you will see from the listing above, Holmhill House sleeps 14 in total. Ms Fielding's booking was confirmed in writing as 12 adults and 2 children (there was no requirement for a cot) - so 14 in total means we're full.
We were asked if we would accommodate the group's arrival 4 hours ahead of the normal entry time and again we were happy to oblige.
On arrival, there were actually 14 adults along with two children in the group. This is obviously a significant problem, but rather than ruin their break by turning them away, the Holmhill Team went into overdrive. We located an extra bed, assembled it and made it up with fresh linen, we then made a cot available for one of the children thereby freeing up another bed for one of the additional adults. We would have declined the booking at outset had we known how many people were going to be staying in the house.
The Highlands do get very cold and for this very reason, the central heating has to be on every day in the winter whether there a guests staying or not. On arrival, all guests are shown where the control for the heating system is and written instructions are also left to ensure that they know how to use the system. We did get a call at around 5.30pm that afternoon from Ms Fielding to say that she couldn't get the central heating to work, we reassured her that we would have someone with her as a matter of urgency. We received a second call 15 minutes or so later to say that they had worked out how to switch it on and all was well.
At the end of their break, we raised with Ms Fielding the problems that had been caused to us by her turning up out of the blue with two more adults than had been expected and charged a token £100 for all the work, effort and inconvenience that had been caused as a result.
We make every effort to ensure that all our guests have a fantastic experience at Holmhill House and we are always disappointed when people don't enjoy their stay but as the saying goes, you can't please all of the people all of the time (but we do try - honestly)!
