The Cumbria/Lake District
There is something for everyone in the Lake District, both young and old, providing fun for the whole family whatever the weather!
A visit to Grasmere, Ambleside and Windermere is an essential part of any visit - small towns set like jewels in the heart of the Lake District National Park, surrounded by beautiful lakes and magnificent mountains which have provided the inspiration for generations of writers, including William Wordsworth, John Ruskin and Beatrix Potter. Beatrix Potter's and Wordsworth's homes are open to the public and are well worth a visit. So is the delightful village of Cartmel with its characterful shops. The young (at heart!) will love the high wire forest adventure at Grizedale Forest, fullof zip wires, swings and rope bridges.
There are plenty of golfing opportunities- Kendal, Keswick and Grange Golf Clubs are all within reach. And of course, fishing. Not only do the lakes, rivers and tarns in the Lake District make for beautiful scenery - beneath the waters species such as brown trout, rainbow trout, ferox lake trout, sea trout, salmon, grayling and char give the Lake District one of the widest varieties of game angling in the UK. Remember that visitors must have a valid Environment Agency Licence to take advantage of the fishing permits that cover the lakes.
There is so much to do it is impossible to fit in in, so please do ask us for more information. Make a telephone call to one of our friendly Tourist Information Centres for detailed advice. Otherwise visit www.golakes.co.uk. Or www.lake-district.gov.uk
Grange-Over-Sands / Kents Bank area
The Apartments are situated within Grange-over Sands which is centrally located in the Southern Lakes - undoubtedly among the most unspoilt natural environments in England and an area of outstanding beauty. Grange-over-Sands has much to offer the visitor and its history was greatly influenced by the advent of the Furness Railway which transformed the former small fishing village into a fashionable Victorian/Edwardian resort, with wealthy merchants building grand houses, of which the Kent’s Bank Apartments is an outstanding example. A traffic-free promenade, ornamental gardens, a duck pond, golf courses, brass band concerts and vantage points for bird watching are just some of the many attractions on offer.
The nearby beautiful village of Ulverston offers a range of individual shops for all tastes and you can delve into the past amongst the soaring monastic ruins of Furness Abbey. The larger centre of Kendal provides a pleasant mix of high street names, outlet and speciality shops, not to mention a wide variety of restaurants, traditional pubs and olde worlde tea rooms. Straddling the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales and nestling amongst rolling hills lie the cobbled streets of Dentdale and neighbouring Sedbergh and Kirkby Lonsdale - small towns steeped in history and tradition.
