Lothlorien and Kents Bank are ideally based to explore the Furness Peninsula and South Lakes. The southern tip of Lake Windermere begins at Newby Bridge which is approximately 8 miles away. Windermere is the largest natural lake in England where steamers leave from Lakeside and travel the length of the lake up to Ambleside with stops along the way.
You may like to visit the medieval village of Cartmel which is only 2 miles away. This lovely ancient village is home to a 12th Century priory, gatehouse and of course the famous racecourse where a number of meetings are held throughout the year.
Ulverston is a fine market town in the centre of the Furness peninsula, with old buildings and a labyrinth of cobbled streets, and is the start of the 70 mile Cumbrian Way. Ulverston is the birthplace of Stan Laurel, where you can see the house where he was born. Lothlorien is 13 miles away from Ulverston.

I have just spent another wonderful week at this property. Last year was the first time we visited and had such a great time we returned for a 2nd visit. Pam and David Chadwick have a great gift for making people feel welcome and a part of the family. The accommodation is spacious -very clean - well presented and feels like home from home. The garden to the rear is a godsend with a beautiful chalet to relax in the sunshine and read or listen to the radio. South facing the sun is in the garden all day long. The sun rises over the bay in the am making walking very pleasant. The post office and shop are a five minute walk away. as is the station at Kents Bank- an excellent connection to Lancaster and the Lake District.. Grange over Sands with more shopping and Cafes to enjoy is only a 5 minute drive along the coast road. Inside the accommodation there is everything you need to self cater for meals - a very well stocked kitchen - you could make a roast dinner if you wanted to - but we just had breakfast and then ate out as there are so many fab places to visit very nearby. Pam and David have recommendations and are helpful in every way. I would recommend this beatiful place wholeheartedly. I would also say that if you visit here - take a car with you. You will need it to see all the lovely areas of beauty around, public transport is ok in part but some of the lovely little villages are nearby but difficult to get to without a car. You can book this lovely house in Kents Bank without having a second thought - it is in a great location, beautifully maintained and has very lovely owners who care that you enjoy your stay - and make sure that you do. 100% FABULOUS |

Lothlorien is a very comfortable, well equipped bungalow set in a lovely spacious garden with a summerhouse. It is within 20 mins drive of Lake Windermere, is about 4 miles from Cartmel and is a short walk to the promenade path leading to Grange Over Sands with a variety of interesting shops and cafes. The owners David and Pam were very friendly and could not do enough for us and the information provided in the bungalow about the area was excellent, in our time of renting we have only met the owners on two occasions. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed as a family and there I made good use of the Summerhouse to disappear for a quiet read. The beds were the most comfortable I've slept in. The bungalow also has a lovely modern spacious bathroom. During our time at Lothlorien we visited the South lakes, Morecambe, Keswick, Derwent Water, Hawkshead, Windermere and Coniston as well as taking the sea road from Ulverston to Barrow on a wet afternoon where we discovered Piel Castle. We also attended Masquepony Festival at Cartmel which my 15 year old daughter found very entertaining. An ideal location for visiting the Lake District in more comfortable surroundings would be difficult to find. For the majority of the holiday the sun shone and the beautiful surrounding were a pleasure to visit. I look forward to coming back to the Lake District and Lothlorien in the future. I have been asked to provide a comment on what could be better - regarding the bungalow there is nothing other than access to a washing line (though my husband says if anything sits still for long enough it gets washed) and just for information only, Grange Over Sands has very little for teenagers, though that was not a problem in the case of my daughter as we travelled out daily. Regarding Holiday Lettings, it was not possible to book the dates I wanted from Monday to Monday - these dates were only offered as 2 short breaks - Monday to Friday and Friday to Monday. With the agreement and help of David and Pam we were accepted for the dates we needed and experienced a lovely holiday. |
