Home description
The conversion of the Pressoir was finished in 2009 to a high standard. Set amongst the rolling hills of upper Normandy in the middle of horse stud country. The house is perfect for those wishing to get away from it all and who enjoy walking or relaxing. The Pays d'Auge is the cider/calvados producing area of France and the local agriculture reflects this.

The Normandy / Calvados region
Le Parc des Vignes is located in the Pays d’Auge area of Calvados in Normandy. The Pays d’Auge is a protected area because of its beautiful natural beauty & historical merit. It is typified by its ‘colombage’ (timber framed) houses, rolling countryside, meadows full of cattle, acres of apple orchards and a lovely coastline.
The Normandy landing beaches spread from east to west along the northern coast, Sword, Juno, Gold, Omaha and Utah. Nowadays the fashionable resorts of Deuville, elegant and luxurious and Trouville, more picturesque and simple are hubs of activity with their Casinos and famous racecourse.
Honfleur, a town of artists, writers and fishermen is within easy reach and Cabourg, the romantic's dream and Houlgate are the closest coastal resort to Les Vignes.
Caen was the home of William the Conqueror and Falaise, his birthplace. Both have impressive castles. Apart from these two, the area has a wealth of chateaux, including Vendeuvre, 10 minutes from Les Vignes, which has beautiful gardens with fountains and a museum housing a collection of miniature furniture made by master craftsmen.
Grandmesnil area
Set in the beautiful Pays d’Auge the house is surrounded by apple orchards and horse studs.
St. Pierre sur Dives is the nearest town of any size. It grew up around a rich Benedictine abbey that was founded in the eleventh century and still boasts a remarkable old abbey church. Centred on a medieval market hall there is a weekly market where fresh local produce can be purchased. Colourful and lively, there is a great atmosphere as friends meet to buy their weekly supplies and haggle over prices. The area has many chateaux to explore and the pretty Chateau of Vendeavre is situated just outside St Pierre sur Dives
Falaise is the birthplace of William the Conqueror and although extensively damaged during the Second World War retains a distinctly medieval air. The town is situated in the Ante valley and is dominated by an enormous fortress high above a ravine. The area around Trun has much WWII interest being part of the famous ‘falaise pocket’ and the museum at Mont-Ormel is a must. There is the famous Caen Memorial nearby which traces the progress of the war from D day onward.
The cider route and cheese routes will take you off the beaten track through miles of apple orchards and pretty villages where you can sample the local produce. The area is famous for it’s horse studs and the French National Stud at Haras du Pin is a short drive. On Thursday’s in summer they have a large horse parade providing a colourful spectacle.
The fashionable coastal towns of Honfleur, Deauville and Trouville are all but a short drive away as are many of the smaller more intimate seaside villages. Equally the Normandy ‘D’ day landing beaches are within easy reach and Paris is but two hours away.
This area is also the gateway to the Suisse Normand, an area of outstanding natural beauty.
