Home description
This pretty country cottage is very comfortable for a family, it is situated in the grounds of a larger manoir and shares extensive gardens of over 4 acres. Plenty of space to play football, practise your golf swing or just relax. The accommodation was converted from the original cidre press at the turn of the century, the old granit crushing wheel is still in the garden, all rooms are of good size and the cottage is warm and cosy with full central heating, and lovely french windows from the lounge onto a patio looking out over the georgeous normandy countryside. The dining room can accommodage 8 persons and has a lovely little original window which gives the room plenty of character. The kitchen is large and has an extendable kitchen table which can seat six. Off the kitchen is a shower room and wc. On the first floor there is the main family bathroom. The bath is enormous and has a shower above with unbelievable water pressure. There is one small bedroom under sloping ceilings, but still contains a double bed. The middle bedroom is large and has a particularly pretty window, at present it has a double and a single bed plus a sofa bed but this can be arranged to suit your needs. The main bedroom is very large and has a lovely little balcony looking out over the rolling hills.
This is a farming area and the pressoir looks out over unobsructed views of the Normandy countryside. Our nearest neighbours are dairy farmers, supplying milk to make camembert cheese. Other local farmers are happy to give tours and of course the best and largest market in Normandy is held at St Pierre Sur Dives every monday morning, just 15 mins drive The Pressoir has its own driveway and gates. Our suggestions for unmissable days would be, the market at St. Pierre Sur Dives, a day out to see Pegasus Bridge and then on to the large memorial at Caen, a day out to Honfluer with lunch on one of the lovely pavement restaurants and a little retail therapy in the lovely shops and art galaries, for the ladies, there is a superb miliners tucked behind the old curch. A day out at Deauville, first on the beach and then perhaps taking in a spell at the races, but above all, save a couple to days to just relax and walk or drive round our immediate area which is just lovely.

The Normandy / Calvados region
The climate in Normandy is very like Cornwall, and varies just as much, we find the summers longer and the flowers all bloom a little earlier than England. The beaches are wonderful and the towns are very pretty.
Of course it is the site of the D.Day landing and the local area has a very strong historical history of recent and more ancient war time activities.
Grandmesnil area
Calvados is know for the production of cidre and calvados, and lots of local farms offer free tours and tastings. The countryside is very pretty, with rolling hills, the second most well know product is cheese and again farms offer vists to show the process from the cow to the shops.
The markets are wonderful, with great variety of products and really buzzy atmosphere. Deauville and Trouville, Honfluer and Cabour are all wonderful seaside towns, whilst Falaise, Point D`Ouilly , Mezidon Du Cannon and St. Pierre Sur Dives all have numerous chateaus open to the public. The children are well catered for with Festyland in Caen, a small and extremely well priced theme park. A must for a day out is Honfleur, this absolutley beautiful port has the most fantastic old buildings surrounding a small yact basin. The pedestrian area is line with pavement cafe`s and restaurants , and lots and lots of art galaries to brouse awyay the day. Beauvron en Auge is a pretty little village about 20 mins away which is well worth a visit, it has been voted the most beautiful village in normandy and hosts various fetes and events, one a flower festival which coinsides with a big jazz concert, a cider festival which is well worth a vist, and a large and very interesting antiques fair. Pegusus Bridge and its memorial and also the very large war memorial in Caen and well worth a visit. For a longer day out we are still in a days round trip to Mont Saint Michael and Bayeaux with the word famous tapastry. Personnaly we recommed just a few days stay local and enjoying the numerous littles restaurants and cafes.
How to get there
The ferry crossing from Dover to Calais or Dieppe put you on the motorway and a 3 -4 hour easy drive brings you to our area. Alternative ferry crossings from Portsmouth take you to Caen, just 35 mins away and Leharvre about 50 mins easy drive. Flights are erratic at the moment, but Caen hopes to re-establish its cheap flights from Stanstead soon.
