About the home

Chalet Marie Stuart is nestled in a quiet hamlet only 1km from the pretty village centre of Samoens. It is a fantastic warm and comfortable home base for a multitude of activities throughout the year and with 6 (7 for summer self catering) bedrooms ideal for families and larger groups. 265km of pisted ski runs on your doorstep, but don't forget about the vast off-piste area with terrain to match all abilities. In the warmer months there are miles of mountain or flat cycle tracks, or easy to expert hiking trails. Whatever fitness level you're at, there's an activity to suit you.

Chalet Marie Stuart is owner operated by myself, a qualified chef with 16 years experience in the hospitality & catered chalet industry. It is open all year round catered, or self catered when available. Please see below under Rental Details for the various options.

This lovely, traditional Savoyard chalet is built on three levels.

Salon - The warm, comfy and spacious sitting/dining room has an impressive log burning fire. Here you can relax with an aperitif and canapés before enjoying a wonderful home cooked dinner, and whiling away the rest of the evening in the company of your fellow guests.

Balcony - French windows lead on to a generous balcony stretching round most of the building and from here you can enjoy magnificent views of the Giffre Valley and surrounding mountains.

Sitting room - A smaller separate sitting room can be used for reading, cards, watching TV/satellite, a video, a DVD, or just relaxing.

Bedrooms - The 7 en suite bedrooms are equipped with super king size beds, 6 of which can be used as twin beds, and two of which can take a (comfortable) third bed. However, the maximum capacity for dining is 12 adults. A cot can be supplied for very young children sharing their parents' room.

Games and exercise room - This is on the ground floor and is an ideal place for you to get fit or for your children to play. Books, games, CDs, DVDs and videos will all be available for you to use throughout your holiday.

Sauna suite - This is equipped with a shower and WC and offers a great chance to refresh and relax.

Ski and board storage and a drying room are available on the ground floor.

Kitchen - This is fully equipped with 2 ovens & microwaves, 5 ring GAS hob, a large fridge freezer and all the usual utensils you would find in a busy, hard working kitchen. (Self-catered only)

Further details outdoors:
In the warmer months there is a five and a half metre circular pool, ideal for cooling off or playing with the children. The large flat garden is great for a kick-around or badminton.

The balcony wraps round most of the chalet and there is a wide terrace at the back which is ideal for BBQs, sunbathing & all your outdoor dining needs. Tables & chairs (18 people), sun loungers (4 people), parasols and a BBQ are all readily available for your use.

Off street flat parking for up to 6 cars.

In the winter, for full weeks or short breaks (min 3 nights), I offer a ski chalet formula which includes bed, hearty breakfast, afternoon tea and on 6 nights (to allow the chef a night off, and let you sample one of the excellent Samoëns restaurants), a three course dinner with wine, preceded by an aperitif and canapés, and followed by a digestif.

In the Spring, Summer and Autumn months I should be delighted to welcome you any night for B&B with dinner on request.

OUTSIDE THE WINTER SEASON, the whole chalet can be rented for full weeks on a self catered basis.

Conditions

I operate a no smoking in the chalet, but there are a number of balconies and outside covered areas where ashtrays are provided.

Family pets are very welcome with full chalet bookings (10+ people)

The Rhone / French Alps / Haute-Savoie region

Haute Savoie, formerly part of Savoie in Rhône-Alpes, & with a remarkable history, lies at the North end of the French Alps & offers a wide variety of stupendous scenery, interesting place to visit & loads of activities, all year round.

The Grand Massif (Samoëns, Morillon, Flaine, Sixt-Fer-Cheval & Le Carroz) is a fabulous ski area, with 260kms of pistes of all grades.

In summer there are miles of trails & stunning views for hikes, walks, pony, mountain bike and bike rides.

Sixt has a wonderful horse-shoe panorama of the surrounding mountains & an impressive waterfall.

Day trips by car can take you to Chamonix, Mont Blanc, Annecy, Yvoire, Geneva & many other inviting places to visit. Aquaparc at Le Bouveret (Switzerland - 90 mins) is a must for families. Its huge indoor & outdoor swimming parc is well worth a day out regardless of weather.

Try skating, toboggan, climb, parapente, raft, canoe, fish, golf, swim, tennis, archery & many other activities.

The Grand Massif / Samoens area

Samoëns is a beautiful, unspoiled (former stonemasons’) village in the Giffre Valley. The only ski resort in France to be listed as 'Monument Historique' it retains the qualities of a real French village. Much has been done to make it an attractive holiday place without destroying its historical and cultural features. It has the advantage over some other resorts of being truly French in nature rather than a complex of buildings purpose-built for winter sports. Here, you can experience the real France, while enjoying a winter sports or summer holiday.
Sample its restaurants and bars & look around the Wednesday market
Visit the Alpine Botanic Garden, museum or cheese-making factory
Use the winter children’s nursery (3 months-6 years), and the skating rink
Try a tour of the village & district, led by well informed guides
See Santa Claus on Christmas Eve & dance at Hogmanay
In February enjoy the weekly 'Savoyard Day' with traditional games, giant tartiflette & dance

Chalet Marie Stuart can be booked by either one group for sole occupancy or (for a catered or B&B holiday), by smaller groups & individuals sharing the property with other guests.

Please always email for a quotation, as there are often attractive packages on offer!

WINTER SEASON (SKI FORMULA - DEMI-PENSION+) - Prices are per adult per week or per night

NB: THERE IS NO SELF CATERING OPTION IN THE WINTER SEASON - SORRY!

MINIMUM RENTAL DURING THE REST OF THE YEAR - 1 WEEK.

In the ski season, a deposit of 150 euros per person is required to secure your booking, with the final balance being paid 6 weeks prior to the start of your holiday.

REST OF YEAR - April/December (22 April - 16 December)

PRICES FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR IN THE TABLE ARE FOR SELF CATERED RENTALS.

B&B Rates (2 nights minimum) are 35€ per person per night (21 April to 29 June and 1 Sept to 14 Dec), and 40€ pppn (30 June-31 August). Dinner at 25€ is available by request the previous evening

Packed lunches available & summer barbeques are very welcome at attractive rates.

A deposit of 2 nights tariff is required to confirm a B&B or 1 night for a DP booking.

For self catering, a deposit of 30% is required to confirm a booking and the balance is due 6 weeks prior to arrival. A refundable security deposit of 500 Euros is required on arrival. This will be returned within two (2) weeks of your departure (subject to satisfactory property inspection).

Payments accepted by cash(euros), credit card, bank transfer or a French euro cheque.

Availability notes:

In the winter season, I offer a 'ski formula' (demi pension plus), and no self catering. During the rest of the year, it is also available for B&B with dinner on request any night or for demi pension, and the whole chalet for self catering on a weekly basis.
The availability chart sometimes does not tell the whole storyy, as it can be partially booked, which means either that it is fully booked for part of the week, or that there are some rooms booked for all or part of the week. It is always worth enquiring.
