Home description

La Ferme Rouge is a traditional Savoyard farmhouse, situated at Verchaix, near Morillon and Samoens in the French Alps.

The property has been converted to form a substantial 4/5 bedroom house on the upper 2 floors and a separate 2 bedroom apartment at ground level with access via its own walled garden. The farm and apartment can be rented separately, sleeping 9 and 5 respectively, or together to create a substantial holiday property sleeping 14.

The spacious main house is perfect for large families or groups and comprises of 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a double height dining room with an open fire, a large living room with plenty of light from the large double windows, also with a log burner, a large farmhouse kitchen equipped with a range cooker, a separate breakfast room, a mezzanine equipped with toys, dvd and TV and a stunning garden.

The apartment, which has been recently refurbished, is perfect for a family and comprises of 1 double and 1 triple bedroom and bathroom. The large living area with an authentic Godin wood burning stove and comfortable L-shaped sofa. The kitchen is equipped with an electric hob and oven, double sink, dishwasher, washing machine, refrigerator.

The nearest ski-lift to Verchaix is immediately across the valley at Morillon, a 3-minute drive away. Morillon, which itself has a delightful range of easy and intermediate pistes, provides access to the Grand Massif area which links Flaine, Samoens, Morillon, Les Carroz and Sixt with over 250 km of prepared pistes of all levels of difficulty. There are also extensive off-piste opportunities.

For the walking enthusiast the area is particularly good offering eventhing from a quiet stroll along the river to serious high mountain expeditions.

Verchaix is located in the valley of the Giffre, 6 km below Samoens. The valley itself continues as far as Sixt Fer-a Cheval, where it ends in a spectacular rock amphitheatre. As a result, there is no through traffic in the valley.

Our prices include all linen and towels and end of stay cleaning. The beds are made up prior to arrival and a welcome hamper is provided so you do not need to rush to the shops on arrival. We have a discounted rate, for our clients, at one of the main ski shops in Morillon village. We are also on hand throughout your holiday to assist with all aspects of your holiday.

The Rhone / French Alps / Haute-Savoie region

Verchaix is set in one of the most beautiful areas in the Haute Savoie Region with fantastic facilities on your doorstep both in summer and winter.

For the skiing enthusiast Verchaix is just 3 mins drive from Morillon which has some of the best snow records in the Alps in recent years and is linked with the Grand Massif, one of the greatest skiing domains in France including Flaine, Samoens, Lez Carroz and Sixt-Fer-a-Cheval. However, if you wanted to go further a field Verchaix is only a 40 minute drive away from the famous Chamonix Mont Blanc where, for the extremely adventurous amongst you, you can ski the famous Vallee Blanche which is an off-piste ski route, 17km long with a vertical descent of 2800m. The views are stunning and the high mountain environment provides a real sensation of wilderness. This is one of those memorable life experiences. A mountain guide is essential if you fancy doing this trip. With just a 20 minute drive to Les Gets or 30 minutes to Morzine from Verchaix you can also ski in the Portes du Soleil. But with the Grand Massif so close to the Farm you have 265km of pistes to keep you busy.

In the summer the surrounding area is filled with amazing flora and fauna and within driving distance there are many beautiful classic Savoyard towns and villages to visit. A 45 minute drive will take you to Annecy where you can visit one of the most beautiful lakes in Europe, where you can have lunch or dinner dance on the luxury boat La Libellule whilst enjoying the amazing scenery. With its lovely castle, canal walks, shops, restaurants and historic entertainment a visit to Annecy is a must.

Within an hours drive you can also visit Switzerland and Italy

Grand Massif / Verchaix area

Verchaix is located in the valley of the Giffre, 6 km below Samoens and close to Morillon. The valley itself continues as far as Sixt Fer-a Cheval, where it ends in a spectacular rock amphitheatre. As a result, there is no through traffic in the valley. There is a market which takes place during summer and winter, just a few minutes walk from the Farm. There is also a boulangeris, restaurant and bar within walking distance of the Farm.

Samoens is a historic village that has retained much of its original charm despite the development of leisure facilities, including the opening of a new ski-lift, the Grand Massif Express, in 2003. It is the only protected ski resort in France and completely different in appearance and character from all the purpose-built resorts in the French Alps.

Morillon village was built up around the 16th century church of St Chrisophe and Town Hall. There are guided tours through the village every Thursday at 1030am. Morillon prides itself for being awarded the ‘Famille Plus’ award which is the unique national tourism label to approve the facilities and services available to families with children, it is recognised by the French ministry of tourism.

The Giffre is a charming unspoilt valley that has long been favoured by French families for both winter and summer vacations. Although attracting an increasingly international clientele, it remains very French in ambience.

In summer, the valley offers a wide range of sporting and leisure activities including swimming, tennis, riding, walking, climbing, cycling, mountain biking, white-water rafting and hang-gliding. There are also several excellent golf courses within easy reach.
