A well equipped and spacious apartment, 50m from the ski bus stop or only 10 mins walk to the Grand Vans lift. A comfortable apartment with two double bedrooms and accommodation for up to 6 guests. The picture windows and large balcony have fantastic unrestricted views over the mountains and pistes of the Flaine ski bowl - bring a pair of binoculars to watch the skiers and boarders in the jam park at Aujon! Ideally located in Flaine Foret a short walk from the shops, restaurants, bowling alley etc in the Galerie Marchand.

The Rhone / French Alps / Haute-Savoie region
Further afield there are plenty of places to visit. The village of Les Carroz is a typical Savoyarde village with a wide range of shops, restaurants and activities. Geneva, Chamonix, Morzine, Annecy and Courmayeur (through the Mont Blanc tunnel) are all good for a day out.
Grand Massif / Flaine area
Flaine is the largest and highest part of the Grand Massif ski region. The Flaine bowl is a huge ski area and would be easily sufficient for a full week's skiing suitable for skiers and boarders of all levels. The Grand Vans 8 person chairlift (the nearest lift to us in Flaine Foret) provides the link to the wider resorts of Les Carroz, Morillon, Samoens and Sixt with unlimited skiing potential for more adventurous skiers and those wanting to explore.
From the top of the Grandes Platieres cable-car there are fantastic and wide-ranging views across to Mont Blanc and the Aiguile du Midi. The top of the Grand Vans and Tete de Saix have distant views down towards Geneva.
IN SUMMER the limestone pavement of the Desert de Plate is a geological curiosity and well worth a visit. There are a huge variety of mountain walks, either with a guide or independently with walks well marked across the mountains with directional markers and approximate timings. The Tourist Office provides comprehensive route guides and maps with walks to suit all abilities. Similarly there are maps and routes marked for mountain bikes.
During August Flaine hosts an annual international music festival with several free concerts in the Auditorium. Flaine has the highest golf course in France, a spectacular 18 hole course with driving range, putting greens, practice bunkers and clubhouse. There are several tennis courts (surely some of the most picturesque you will ever play on!) also mountain biking, orienteering, archery, mini-golf, beach volleyball, petanque, swimming pool and children's activities including a circus school.
How to get there
There are regular flights from most UK regional airports (British Airways, EasyJet, Jet2.com,bmibaby.com).to the nearest airport at Geneva (45 miles/70km). Bus and taxi transfers are available.
From Calais to Cluses, at the bottom of the mountain, the journey can be done entirely on the AutoRoute. The total distance from Calais is 545 miles/870 km. There are plenty of reasonably priced motels en route if you wish to break your journey.
The TGV high-speed train direct from Paris to Cluses takes around three hours total travel time.

Two bedrooms (one double, one twin) both with ample wardrobe storage and picturesque views over the mountains from the bedroom windows.
Spacious living area with double sofa-bed and casual seating, TV, video, DVD player etc.
The kitchen has a four-ring hob and small oven, fridge with small freezer compartment, full sized dishwasher and a good range of crockery/cooking utensils.
Bathroom with bath / shower and a separate WC.
Books, games and videos are available if you are too exhausted for the apres ski.
Further details outdoors: Situated in the upper part of Flaine (Flaine Foret) the apartment is within easy walking distance of the ski lifts -currently 10 mins to Grand Vans 8 person chair lift. The new Montsoleil chair lift which is being installed this season will (we think) provide almost ski-in, ski-out capability for the Arche although this is yet to be tried! In any event, the free shuttle bus to the Grand Vans lift stops at the end of the access road to the Arche for those who would rather not walk.
Other amenities at Flaine Foret include a Spar supermarket, boulangerie, restaurants,ski hire shops, bowling alley, bars etc and are all within a short walk. The two shuttle lifts down to Flaine Forum operate 24 hours a day where there are additional facilities, post office, information bureau, Credit Agricole bank with ATMs, nightclub etc.
The resort is traffic -free and parking is available either in our own garage (additional charge) or in one of the resort car parks close by (local charge).
Flaine works very well as a purpose-built ski resort with an extensive ski area suitable for all abilities including beginners and children, has an excellent snow record at resort level (1650m) and some of the top snow depths in Europe on the upper slopes. The natural scenery is fantastic - don't be put off by the Bauhaus architecture which we have grown to respect and even like, particularly in the summer when it blends into the rugged landscape. Recent investment in new and upgraded lifts means that queues are seldom a problem.
There are several good eating places serving typical Savoyarde food, pizzas etc, a popular bowling alley, cinema (English films twice weekly), and indoor swimming pool.

We use a local agent who holds the keys, arranges cleaning, provides clean bedding and sorts out any problems.
