The Rhone / French Alps / Haute-Savoie region

Samoens is part of the Grand Massif, one of the largest ski areas in Europe. It is made up of Flaine, Morillon, Les Carroz, Sixt and Samoens. It offers extensive skiing and snowboarding, with an excellent snow record which is one of the best in the Alps. 2003 saw the opening of a super fast gondola from Samoens, taking you from the village straight up to Samoens 1600 ski resort in just 8 minutes. This delivers you straight into the heart of Samoens own extensive ski area, which joins you with over 260km of piste plus 80 lifts.

The ski area is varied and offers runs for all abilities. The resort offers breathtaking views and even non skiers can take the grand massif lift from Samoens to 1600m and watch family and friends on the pistes. Beginners are well catered for on the groomed nursey slopes at 1600m. Intermediates have a whole host of runs to chose from that can take you far afield to neighboring resorts and beautiful tree lined runs. There are numerous reds and black runs locally and of course over in Flaine, where experts are well catered for.

The piste - Consists of 14 black runs, 51 red runs, 53 blue runs,15 green runs and 116 snow canons makes the region ideal for all levels of ability. A recent 11m Euro investment saw the introduction of facilities such as free parking at the main lift and a new children's ski area at Samoens 1600.

Grand Massif / Samoens area

This spectacular and beautiful area is protected and hence hasn’t been spoilt by tourism. Samoens has been awarded a ‘Coq d’Or’ for being one of the prettiest villages in France and is the only ski resort classified by the Caisse des Monuments Historiques. The villages are full of character and charm with quaint streets, yet still provides the centre for almost every outdoor activity imaginable.

Based in the beautiful valley of the Giffre river, the area provides spectacular scenery including mountain lakes, national parks and botanical gardens plus amazing wildlife and just minutes up the road at Sixt Fer a Cheval are over a dozen enormous waterfalls. It has a great deal to offer for families and individuals of all ages seeking adventure or alternatively just sheer relaxation.
There are numerous excellent restaurants, including bistros, gourmet, traditional French Savoyard and Pizzerias. A range of cafes and bars and numerous shops cater for all your needs, many of which are located around the historic square. There are typical French markets, beautiful churches, chocolatiers, health and beauty parlours, cash points, doctors, chemists, a cinema, an ice skating rink, creche, swimming pools in summer, bakeries, supermarkets and everything else you would expect from well equipped mountain resorts. The Tourist Office puts on various entertainments in the village square ranging from kids' events to antique fairs throughout the year
