The Rhone / French Alps / Haute-Savoie region

Samoens is a traditional French village in Haute Savoie and is only 80kms from the nearest airport in Geneva. The village remains unspoilt and does not have high rise concrete apartment blocks that are present in so many other French resorts. It flourishes all year round.

There is an abundance of opportunities for the out of doors enthusiast throughout the year making it a delightful holiday destination at any time. The area has a good snow record in winter and warm sunny summers. Its location also makes it a perfect base from which to explore the surrounding area with towns including Chamonix, Morzine and Annecy all within an hour's drive.

Couples, groups of friends and families of all ages will love this picturesque village with all it has to offer. Besides the many outdoor pursuits there is also an excellent choice of bars and restaurants tucked away in its narrow streets in which to relax and refuel after the exertions of the day. Many are traditional Savoyard in style and attract a mixed clientele of both locals and visitors alike.

Grand Massif / Samoens area

The River Giffre flows through Samoens and many lovely walks and cycle rides hug its banks. On your doorstep, the Giffre is also used for water based sports such as rafting, canyoning and kayaking. Besides river focused activity other options include golf, parapenting, horse riding, climbing, walking up into the mountains and mountain biking.

When it's too warm to be energetic you can be lazy and take a stroll through the village, stopping off for icecream or a beer sur terrace to watch the world go by.

Samoens also has an outdoor activity park called Indiana Park. Amongst its facilities are 6 tennis courts, archery, golf driving range, children's play area with slides, roundabouts and swings, football pitch, lakes and roller blading paths. Children will love the woodland assault course of ladders, walkways and rope slides.

Golf
In summer many of the winter pistes become golf courses. In Haute Savoie golfers are spoilt for choice. There are 8 courses within an hour's drive of Samoens, all enjoying spectacular settings with stunning backdrops including Mont Blanc and Lac d'Annecy which will leave a permanent imprint in your memory bank.

Winter activities
Samoens is situated in the Grand Massif ski area which includes Flaine, Morillon, les Carroz and Sixt. The Samoens cable car takes 8 minutes to reach the ski area. The Grand Massif has an excellent snow record and offers 265kms of piste with splendid panoramic views of Mont Blanc. There is extensive skiing for skiers/boarders of all levels.

Other winter activity options include - ice skating, dog sledging, cross country skiing, snow shoe walking, children's play area with slides, roundabouts and swings, sports centre with facilities including 2 swimming pools.
