Les Fermes de Samoens 24
About the home
Located between Geneva and Chamonix in the 'Haut Giffre' valley, Samo«ns, at an altitude of 700m to 2500 metres, is a typical Haute-Savoie village which has been listed by the 'Monuments Historiques' for its beautifully preserved architecture and history. A genuine mountain village of chocolate box chalets and magnificent scenery, Samo«ns is huddled around its 11th century church, with its shady square and covered market halls which come alive every Wednesday.
Samoens is in the heart of the Grand Massif ski area and the recent addition of a gondola from the village to Samoens 1600 means that 265km of ski runs are just 8 minutes away.
And it doesn't end with skiing - an abundance of other winter sports activities such as snowshoeing, cross-country skiing (76km of trails over three areas), paragliding, ice-skating, dog-sledding, archery, and a fitness centre are all on hand to tempt you. And when the busy day on the slopes is over, the village has a leisure centre with swimming pool, a cinema, a selection of bars, restaurants and a nightclub. Free ski buses run every 20 minutes both in and around Samo«ns and to nearby Morillon and Sixt.
SKI Area: Grand Massif is one of France's largest ski areas offering good skiing for all levels and linking a series of family friendly resorts: Samo«ns, Les Carroz, Flaine, Morillon and Sixt. There are challenging runs for intermediates and experts, lovely wooded off-piste tracks and good facilities for snow boarders including a fun park with a half-pipe in Flaine. Nearby to is Cluses(20km). The 'Massif Partiel' (excluding Flaine) offres no less than 140km of pistes which we would rate as follows in terms of suitability for each ability level: Beginners*** Intermediates**** Experts** Snowboard**
Residence Les Fermes de Samoens is made up of a group of traditional, chalet-style, 3-storey buildings which are divided into 130 apartments, and terraced chalets. The free ski bus passes at the back of the residence and goes to the gondola which takes you up to the ski school departure area. The ski bus runs every 15 minutes from 8.30 to 9.30am and every 30 minutes from 9.30am to the closing time of the resort approx 4.30pm, and it is a 5 minutes ride from the residence to the gondola.

The Grand Massif / Samoens area
Samoens is linked to the vast Grand Massif ski area (along with Flaine, Les Carroz, Sixt Fer à Cheval and Morrillon) which, with 260km of pistes, is one of the largest skiing areas in France. All standards are well provided for and in addition to downhill skiing there are 90km of cross-country tracks and a skating rink.
Thanks to its traditional rustic architecture, its rich heritage of stone-masonry, the partially pedestrian central square, Samoens is a listed village, an unspoilt mountain village with an abundance of character.
Set in the majestic 'Haut Giffre Valley”, Samoens is a typical alpine village, huddled around its 11th century church and its covered market hall 'Le Gros Tilleul”. This vibrant, family resort has all you need in terms of shops, bars, a cinema.
If Samoens is great for those who like to be pampered, those who like to soak up the mountain atmosphere, it is also very much a serious sports resort.
The village is at 720m but thanks to the Grand Massif Express cable car, it takes just 8 minutes to reach the Grand Massif ski area which reaches 2500m and covers an area of 265km with an excellent range of pistes to suit all levels (17 green, 60 blue, 53 red, 14 black). Le Grand Massif links the resorts of Flaine, Les Carroz, Sixt Fer à Cheval and Morrillon to make one of the most beautiful 'snowy playgrounds' in the Alps.
As well as stunningly beautiful scenery stretching as far as the eye can see, thanks to its geographic situation, the region enjoys a reliable snow record throughout the season. Beginners and experienced skiers alike are equally well provided for and even the most hesitant skiers will enjoy the legendary Piste des Cascades which follows a 14km descent from the summit of the Grand Plati¨res at 2500m, right to the village of Sixt some 1700m lower. A free ski bus brings you back to Samoens.
Discover the fabulous Panorama from "La Tete des Saix" (2120m) which you can reach in 20 minutes from the base of the cable car.
