Home description
Our self catering chalet in Samoens has been recently built by local artisans in typical savoyard style. It has been carefully designed and equipped to provide the perfect base to enjoy this delightful resort in the French Alps with its huge range of winter and summer activities.
The open plan ground floor provides comfortable seating for 8 round the TV and fire (logs provided). The south facing terrace is great for barbecues in summer. The two bedrooms on the first floor each have a balcony from which you can savour the stunning views. From the loft bedroom on the third floor you can see "La Cascade" - spectacular after rain.
The centre of the village is a short walk away along an old railway line. In winter, the frequent ski-bus is 2 minutes walk. The resort has an excellent snow record.

The Rhone / French Alps / Haute-Savoie region
Savoy was not part of France until 1860. As a consequence, it has a very distinct character. Our builder proudly proclaims he is Savoyard not French!
About an hour from the chalet is Lake Geneva where you can bathe, sail to Switzerland or take the waters at Evian-les-Bains.
To the South, the white mass of Mont Blanc dominates Chamonix. You can take a funicular half way up - the initial plan was to build it to the top but they ran out of money!
Italy is about an hour away through the Mont Blanc tunnel.
Annecy make a great day out - wander round the old town, lie on the beach and take a boat to the other end of the lake.
Grand Massif / Samoens area
Winter
- Excellent snow record - Grand Massif Express gets you from the village to Samoens 1600 in 8 minutes - Samoens 1600 is an excellent beginner/intermediate ski area with a good ski-school and pleasant bars/cafes - From the top at Samoens you have access to the Grand Massif - 80 lifts and 265 km of pistes - ski extreme! - Ski down to Sixt at the end of the day via the famed, long blue run "Les Cascades" - The free ski-bus is every 15 minutes at peak times - Cross-country skiing to the doorstep - Parapente, helicopter rides, ice skating, snow-shoeing, ice climbing etc, etc....

The summer pleasures of Samoens are almost unknown to the British market.
