Our apartments are ideal for a Granada city break or winter skiing in the Sierra Nevada, perfect for summer holidays by the pool. Well placed for exploring the region of Granada and the Costa Tropical, and Golf only 20 minutes drive. They offer a great value option for exploring the city of Granada without the hassle or expense of parking in the city for several days. The apartments are situated in a quiet countryside location - away from the tourist hullaballoo, yet within easy reach of a range of different holiday experiences. Whether planning a short stay 'city break', a weekend skiing or a longer vacation, there is something for you at Medina Elvira 23.

Medina Elvira is on the plain of Granada, enjoying an elevated position with views across open countryside towards the Sierra Nevada to the South West and towards Moclín to the North West. All of the apartments enjoy good views in one or both directions. You are a short drive from the towns of Albolote or Atarfe, where you will find supermarkets, bakeries and a wide variety of local shops, as well as a good selection of bars and restaurants. The nearby small village of Chaparral has a restaurant and a pizzeria, and a couple of bars. Within a few minutes drive (or a short walk) you can enjoy a meal at Restaurant Romero by Cubillas Lake with great food and lovely views, friday evening barbeques in summer.

There are plenty of tourist attractions in this area, but this is an area of Spain where you will find that English is not widely spoken except in the city or towns with larger English populations. The apartments offer an excellent base for making your own holiday if you are keen to visit 'real Spain' and won't worry if there aren't bars and restaurants serving English food. This is a gated development with access through pedestrian gates or through the garages where there is secure underground parking with allocated bays.

There are two large outdoor swimming pools open summer season. Both pools are situated in secure gardens which are open during pool season. Please note the pools are unheated and whilst they are filled all year round they are only maintained for swimming during the advertised opening dates. There is a small childrens play area seperate from the gardens.

Some of the apartments are on the ground floor. There is level access for a wheelchair into the ground floor apartments from the road, through the gardens to the main door, however there is a step to be negotiated from inside these apartments onto the terrace. These properties are therefore suitable for someone with limited mobility but not for anyone who is wheelchair dependent.

Some of the apartments are accessed by stairs, none are above the 2nd Floor.

Further details

Rental includes bedlinen and towels (for use in the apartments only), meet and greet on arrival with English key holder, and cleaning on departure. Rentals of two weeks will also include a linen/towel change and mini-clean midway through the holiday. An additional mid-week clean/towel change can be arranged by prior request, payable locally.

There is an information folder in each apartment.

Detergents provided for washing machine, and dishwasher in those apartments which have one.

Most apartments allow smoking on the terraces only, no smoking is allowed inside the properties. Please see individual advertisements.

25% non-refundable deposit required with confirmation of booking, and full payment 8 weeks prior to stay. Bookings made within 8 weeks of holiday will require payment in full.

Damage deposit of £50 to £250 depending on number of properties booked, refundable once an inventory check has been carried out.

The Andalucia / Granada Province region

There are 3 golf courses within an easy drive of Medina Elvira: Granada Golf Club at Las Gabias, Los Mariscos Golf Club near Motril, and Santa Clara Golf Club at Otura. Playing fees are very reasonable in this area.

In the historic city of Granada you can explore the Albaicín and Sacromonte, visit the Cathedral and Royal Chapel, and shop for souvenirs in the Alcaicería - a network of narrow lanes which was originally the Moorish silk market, next to the Plaza Bib-Rambla where you can enjoy a drink or a meal. The city is a beautiful showcase for the Moorish and Christian history of Spain.

Visit the Science Park for hands on activity or the Aquaola Water Park just outside the city (open Summer Season).

The Alhambra can be visited as part of a day in the city, or accessed directly, with parking by the entrance, only 30 minutes drive from the apartment. This famous monument, with architecture from across the centuries including the Moorish Alcazaba (castle) and the Nasrid Palaces, as well as the beautiful gardens and buildings of the Generalife, is best booked online in advance. A timed ticket is required for entry to the Nasrid Palaces. Further information can be provided when you book your stay.

Just north east of Medina Elvira is the pretty hill town of Moclín and nearby village of Olivares where you will find few tourists but thousands of olive trees and a few friendly bars/restaurants. The region offers many opportunities for walking both locally and further afield in the Alpujarras, or in the Sierra Nevada in summer.

A short distance south of Granada, just off the A44, is the road into the Alpujarras, where a visit to sleepy Lanjarón with its castle, and Órgiva with its lively thursday market, make a good day out. Venture further into the hills to the pretty hillside towns strung along the road including Pampaneira.

The coastal area of Costa Tropical is just a little further on and the approach to the coast takes in spectacular views of the motorway as it negotiates the hills on impressively engineered viaducts. The traditional coastal towns of Salobreña and Almuñécar offer a variety of beaches and good seafood.

Everywhere in the region you are likely to be given a tapa when you order a drink, in bars and restaurants. The tapa is said to have originated in the Granada region, on the Costa Tropical, and is still served free of charge. A good way of trying out regional food.

Granada also offers skiing from November through to April or early May, with the Sierra Nevada ski slopes approximately 45 minutes drive from the apartment. Said to offer the best spring snow in Europe, there is a British ski centre in the resort. In Granada they say that in spring you can ski in the morning, and spend the afternoon on the beach. Ski & Golf equipment storage available on request.

Climate: The climate in Granada can differ greatly from that on the coast, it is an inland climate and although the area where the apartments are situated is largely flat the climate is influenced by the nearby Sierra Nevada mountains, where Mulhacén is the hightest peak in Spain. In Summer it is very hot both day and night, whereas in Spring or Autumn hot daytime temperatures may be balanced by cooler evenings. In Winter it is still possible to experience warm days but there is more rain, and the temperatures can be well below freezing at night. The apartments all offer central heating or electric heating, and some have air conditioning. Reasonable use is included in the rental rate.

The Granada area

Atarfe and Albolote nearby offer a good variety of shopping, bars and restaurants, with quiet squares and small pleasant parks. They are not tourist towns but have a full range of shops for all your needs. There are also larger commercial parks with hypermarkets such as Carrefour, just off the A44 near Granada.

Near to Medina Elvira you will find the tower of Albolote, an ancient tower from which the Moors watched over the approaches to Granada from the north. The tower is visible from the rear of the development: it is now a ruin, but is worth a visit for the views towards Medina Elvira and Cubillas Lake, and driving up through the woods there is a public picnic and barbecue area. A little further away, just outside Atarfe, is the Ermita de los Tres Juanes, from which there are fabulous views towards Granada, and where you will find a Michelin Guide restaurant with a lovely terrace. The towns of Santa Fé and Fuente Vaqueros are also nearby.

Medina Elvira is conveniently situated close to the intersection of the A92 and A44 motorways north west of Granada, just a few minutes drive from Junction 116 of the A44. The nearest airport is Granada, 15 minutes drive away on the A92, Malaga Airport is approximately 1.5 hrs by car, all motorway until the last 3 miles.
