The Valenciana region
You will find Gran Alacant in the Costa Blanca region. The 'White Coast' as it is translated is distinguished by its' great white sandy beaches and lively resorts, running along the coast from Denia in the north passing through Alicante and continuing south to Torrevieja and beyond. Centrally located, it is an ideal place from which to explore the wide-ranging Valencian region. Known for its fantastic climate and dry weather the Costa Blanca is a great place to holiday. Gran Alacant is situated on the hillside between the cities of Alicante and Santa Pola. Just a 10 minute drive from Alicante airport. With Alicante as your closest city, other surrounding well known towns are Benidorm and Calpe to the north, and Torrevieja and Murcia to the south. The nearest local town to Gran Alacant is Santa Pola.
The beautiful quaint fishing port of Santa Pola is just 5kms drive south of Gran Alacant. Santa Pola has a large market with a vast variety of foods and goods available and takes place on Saturday and Monday mornings. You can take the coast road along the Carabassi beach into Santa Pola which runs from the bottom of the hill at Gran Alacant into the town and take a glass bottom boat ride to the island of Tabarca.
Alicante boasts some of the best beaches on the Costa Blanca. Official sources have declared Spanish beaches as the most environmentally healthy in Europe. With an impressive array of Blue Flag Awards under its belt, it is not difficult to see why Spain and most notably the Costa Blanca have been voted the “best of the best”. Amidst some of the services like parasols for hire, life saving, first aid facilities and toilets, you will also find that the majority of these beaches are wheelchair accessible.
In the centre of the city at the end of Alicante's famous promenade you will find the Playa del Postiguet, - the local's beach resort. Conveniently close to the marina and the centre. A little north and considered one of Alicante's best beaches is 'la playa de San Juan'. Bordered by a long promenade leading to Campello and lined with bars, restaurants and ice cream parlours, this vast, soft white sandy beach runs into yet another one of Alicante great beaches - Platja Muchavista.
If snorkelling is your thing, then Cabo de la Huerta is the beach for you. Travelling south away from Alicante in the direction of Gran Alacant is the Platja de Babel, which is also very good. A day trip to the Island of Tabarca is also worth a visit, the island was declared a protected marine reserve in 1986, but the protection does not prohibit all kinds of water activities within the reserved area.
Ten miles from Alicante centre and one of the closest beaches to Gran Alacant (2min drive) is Los Arenales del Sol. This is a typical Spanish seaside resort, where you will find shops, bars and restaurants boasting stunning sea views and a lovely evening market along the promenade during the summer months. This lovely beach runs into the gorgeous, dune backed Carabassi beach.
Further south and approaching the nearby town of Santa Pola from the East, you will find further wonderful beaches and all within an easy and flat walk away from the shops, bars and restaurants.
There are three cities within an hour's drive of Gran Alacant - Alicante to the north (18km), Elche to the north west (30km) and Murcia (75km) to the south. Alicante international airport is only a 10 minute drive.
Whether you are looking for a summer holiday or winter break you will find the perfect getaway in Gran Alacant. Gran Alacant is an urbanisation of Santa Pola, a typical Spanish town located about 10 minutes drive away. It has one of the largest fishing fleets in the Mediterranean and during the Roman era served as a sea port to the city of Elche, which is located further inland. The town has beaches, a marina, plenty of shops, tapas bars and restaurants complete with a fort in it's centre. During September the world wind-surfing championships are held on one of the towns beaches.
Gran Alacant can offer you the best of both worlds. Those looking for a relaxing holiday lounging by the pool, a bit of tennis for exercise and a quiet meal in the nearby restaurant are well catered for. There is however plenty to do for those looking for something a bit more active or fun. The excellent motorway network ensures that nearby surrounding areas and attractions are not sorrowfully missed. Only 45 minutes away by car (just outside of Benidorm) is Terra Mitica, a theme park to be enjoyed by both adults and kids alike. In Benidorm, nestling in one of its hills is the superb fun packed water park Aqualandia which is next to Mundomar the sea life centre.
Although nightlife in Gran Alacant is quite low key, it is by no means lifeless. Numerous bars and restaurants constantly entertain those who are quite happy to enjoy good food and a great bottle of wine. And for variety you may want to try some 'tapas' or even dine at one of Santa Pola's top restaurants like Moniatos and Polamar. On the other hand, the nearby city of Alicante has a bustling night life catering for all tastes.
Amidst all the facilities and services in the area you will find supermarkets, including an English supermarket, shops, bars, banks (with cash dispensers), car rental, a gym, health spa, paragliding, a petrol station, Doctors surgery, opticians, library, Police station and even a local weekly street market.
Lastly, although worthy of mention is the fact that the short distance to the airport makes Gran Alacant a specifically good holiday base. You can be in your holiday accommodation in less than 15 minutes from leaving the airport and as we are not on the flight path there is no aircraft noise.
Why not take a bus, car or tourist-train ride to the sandy un-spoilt Carabassi beach (Blue Flag awarded again in 2012) . From mid-May until the end of the first week of November several beach bars are set-up and available to cool your thirst. In addition there is a water sport's centre offering pedalo boats, sailing dinghies of various sizes, windsurfing and banana boat rides.

This holiday rental really is every thing you could wish for. Beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Ideally located and easy to get around. The pool is very close by, nice and quiet and is lovely. There are shops, bars and restaurants all within walking distance and the little train takes you to the beach or other parts of Gran Alacant for a few euros. I would recommend to families, couples or solos... All in all, an ideal place to take your vacation.
