The South Wales region
West of Swansea is the beautiful Gower Peninsula- the first area in the whole of the UK to be declared an AONB or an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. At the entrance to Gower lies the famous village of Mumbles. This is where Dylan Thomas spent his leisure time in the Mermaid Inn, now a restaurant, and where you will see bobbing boats , enjoy harbour walks, numerous bistros and cafes and a wide coastal path for walking an cycling. Formerly the track of the famous Mumbles railway, there is a now summer train running the whole length of Mumbles and Swansea Bay that is a delightful way to get around.

Originally built in th 1960s their plain outward appearance belie the stunning position and views which are truly breathtaking.
Local attractions are many and various including natural geographical attractions like coastal and valley walks, the famous beaches of Three Cliffs and Rhossili and cultural attractions in Bishopston, Mumbles and Swansea all in close proximity. It is also possible to go further afield to the Black Mountains, Dan Yr Ogof caves and even the Brecon Beacons. West and Central Wales are also accessible with routes via North Gower, Pembrey, Laugharne, Tenby towards Pembrokeshire making touring feasible and enjoyable.
Welsh Heritage sites abound in Gower and Swansea encompassing elements of past industrial and cultural activities and the Welsh Folk Museum at St Fagans is less than an hour's drive. Swansea's history pays tribute to Dylan Thomas in several exhibitions and to its maritime past and present in the interesting Maritime Quarter near the marina. There are several museums and theatres as well as a plethora of concerts and male voice choir events in the local area. The small village of Bishopston is just inland from Caswell where you will find a friendly inn and local shops. The creative directors of Dr WHO live nearby and Katherine Zeta Jones comes home to her Mumbles home very regularly.
The area is popular with artists and writers who are prominent in local literature. Guests will also find the authentic Welsh Love Spoon collection in the famous Lovespoon Gallery nearby in Mumbles. "A place to recharge your batteries fully!!"
The procedure for booking and paying for the stay was very efficient the owner was a pleasure to deal with.On the day of our arrival the sun came out and lasted for the whole week. The accomodation is excellent as described . The views from the apartment are stunning . At times it was like having your own private beach .We needed a place to unwind from our hectic lives , this is the place. In nearby Mumbles all facilities are available (if you need large shops Swansea is down the road). On an observation note there are three flights of stairs to get to the appartment but worth the effort for the views. One priceless aspect no mobile phone coverage ! If you needed communications there is internet wireless network One suprise was the next house had its own Helicopter very upmarket.
So many people comment on how realxing it is to watch the tide come in and out. It is indeed heavenly. By the way, most mobile phone networks are fine in the bay itself but this can be patchy with some and just walking onto the beach can create a link up.

"There aren't many places like this in the world"
This beautiful apartment is tastefully furnished, clean and very well equipped but above all it probably has one of the most wonderful locations in the world and we've travelled a lot of it. From both the bedroom and sitting/dining area there is a magnificent view onto the beach and sea which are only a stone's throw away. The headland rising to the left and another wooded headland to the right give rise to spectacular cliff path walks at the end of which are a great range of cafes, bars and restaurants, all of which are listed in the apartment's handbook and are all very good especially the full Welsh breakfasts! We have been lucky enough to "winter" here for five months and have loved every minute through all sorts of dramatic weather. We can't write anything adverse because there is nothing. Our dealings with the owner have been more of a pleasure than a business transaction. The apartment and it's location are a credit to her.
So nice to have such positive comments from such well travelled guests! There is indeed somnwthing very special about the Redcliffe, Caswell and Gower in sunny South Wales.
