So much to do and to see in the surrounding area.
If you love nature and beautiful landscapes drive to the Botanical Gardens at Llanarthne, Carmarthenshire. It is a 45 minute journey but you will not be disappointed. The great dome glass house is impressive and home to plants from areas of the world which has a Mediterranean climate. The gardens are amazing all year round.
Closer to home and little known is Penllegaer woods, close to junction 47 off the M4 motorway. Unspoilt, with many woodland walks following the banks of its river.
Aberdulais falls, near Neath, are home to Europe's largest electric generating waterwheel. The falls are a spectacular sight! Its even possible to walk behind one!
The Dan-yr-Ogof caves situated in the Brecon Beacon's National Park are certainly on a par with the famous Cheddar caves. Quite as experience to enter.
The National Wetlands Centre at Penclacwydd, near Llanelli, gives visitors a closer look at wetland birds in as near a natural setting as is possible. A lovely cafe here, with a huge window overlooking the wetlands.
The Millennium Coastal Park, near Llanelli occupies approximately 10 miles of coastline on Bury estuary. It offers a continuous traffic free cycle/footpath.
Staff at the tourist information centre in the heart of Mumbles are very helpful and will help me out here and suggest places to suit you and your family. Enjoy!
The Gower / Caswell Bay area
From Caswell it is possible to take the coastal path all the way to Mumbles and what spectacular scenery you will see on the way! Around the first headland are the bays of Langland and Rotherslade. Bracelet Bay next then comes Limeslade. Mumbles light house can be seen and also the Mumbles Pier which was commissioned as the terminus for the old Swansea to Mumbles railway. Incidentally Mumbles train was the first passenger line in the world. Verdi's an ice cream parlour/cafe is a welcome sight on the way.
Mumbles is a delightful fishing village complete with its own 12th century castle standing on a small hill overlooking the magnificent Swansea Bay.
There is a five mile cycle path ( bicycles can be hired locally) running along the seafront taking you to the new marina and passing the LC which is Swansea's brand new leisure centre. Close by is the National Maritime Museum.
What has Swansea town to offer?
Lots and lots and with such variety. Its theatre boasts a wide choice of shows and exhibitions for everyone to enjoy. No forgetting the Dylan Thomas theatre which is most certainly worth a visit. There's the Plantastia too, a unique tropical haven of wonderful exotic plants and animals.
But there's the whole of the Gower Peninsula beckoning in all its glory to explore. Full of culture, endless coastal and woodland walks, beautiful beaches and variety of water sports to enjoy.
Do as little or as much as you please, but you cannot help but enjoy and be impressed by Britain's first area of outstanding natural beauty.

This apartment is the perfect base to enjoy the beauty of the Gower Peninsular with one of its best beaches, Caswell bay on the doorstep. No matter the weather sunshine or rain the view is nothing short of spectacular. We have stayed in both 2a and 3a and both apartments are brilliantly equiped catering for every aspect of the holiday. The kitchen has everything one could possibly need and there are an array of books and games to occupy young an old. A short drive to mumbles village gives you plenty of choice of pubs, bars and restaurants not forgetting mumbles pier. This aprtmentment truly offers all you could need for a relaxing and enjoyable family holiday even with little children as we have. We hope to return for many years. Response: Thank you for those great comments! We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. We too, feel that its situation is ideal for exploring the sights and delights of the Gower. Mumbles, being a short distance away has much to offer visitors including a twelve century castle now open to the public as well as a huge choice of restaurants, cafes and great small shops as you have mentioned. Thank you for choosing our apartment, we look forward to welcoming you back sometime in the future. |

We stayed at 3A Redcliffe apartment for a long stay over the winter period and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The apartment had been furnished to a high spec. The owners were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Great location, short walks to neighbouring beaches, we enjoyed stopping off at the Langland Brassiere for lunch and taking a short stroll across Caswell beach to the surfside café which offered light snacks and wonderful coffee. Fantastic for couples and young families. The weather was very kind to us with so much light streaming through the large lounge windows you would think it was summer! Photo attached was taken first week in January. Response: We've had a long stay in the apartment too and missed the sea views terribly when we bought a house in the area. Location is everything! One day we may return! Really pleased to hear you enjoyed your time in the apartment. |
